Life isn't easy for twenty-two year old Easter and her teenage sister Anneth, who were left parentless as young children. While Easter, a devout Pentecostal, finds solace in the powerful music of her church, Anneth seeks comfort in the rougher edges of life found in dancing, drinking, and fast living. • Life is tough but worth it

A terrific view of life in the coal mining area of Kentucky. The glimpses of the Pentecostal Holiness Church are powerful and show why it is so important in the lives of its members. The tension between sisters, Easter and Anneth, is gripping and makes a good story.

  • Recommend to Readers

This is an excellent book to read! It keeps you on your toes throught the entire book as you experience the mountains and sisterhood of two sisters. I was required to read this great book for English 102; however, I did infact love and enjoy each chapter! I also recommend Silas House's other books as well, espically Clay's Quilt!!

  • Wonderful and crazy story.

Great book at a great price.

  • The Coal Tattoo

I loved this book, anyone who loves books about appalachia needs to own this book. Silas House doesn't just tell a story he draws the reader in and makes them live the story. As you read the emotions of the characters spill out of the book and soon you will feel everything they are going through. I highly recommend this book all book lovers should own it.
