Product Information

Correct lighting is one of the most important components of photography for capturing great photos. Adequate light is arguably even more important than the camera or lens, without light there is no image. Increase the quality and clarity of even amateur photographs with the Nikon Speedlight SB-800 Shoe Mount Flash for Nikon cameras. For several types of Nikon cameras, the SB-800 has wireless remote operation via a built-in “slave”. The Nikon Speedlight flash can also act as the “master” or “commander” and control additional Speedlights allowing light to bounce around the subject area. Obviously, wireless operation of the flash is a major advantage. The Nikon Speedlight SB-800 features a reverse flash guide number mode on its LCD screen. This allows the user to set the aperture of the camera and the flash sets the level of light automatically based on distance. The SB-800 Speedlight has great power. Recycle time is four to six seconds depending on the type of battery and the number of times the shutter button is depressed. The Nikon SB-800 Speedlight can provide flashes for 130 to 150 photo shots dependent on battery. The Nikon Speedlights work on a creative lighting system (CLS, which increases the ease of use for the photographer. A component of this system is intelligent through the lens metering, or I-TTL or TTL, which are acronyms for the means by which the fash provides the correct amount of lighting for the subject and background when using this mode. The user can change the mode easily via the Nikon SB-800’s LCD screen. This system works with any Nikon camera using manual, zoom or automatic settings. The size of the Speedlight is 2.8x5.0x3.6 inches and it weighs 12.3 ounces empty. The user also may want to consider color gel filters for lenses that provide various effects for indoor and outdoor photos. The diffusion dome of the Nikkon SB-800 softens the light and prevents harsh shadows while providing adequate lighting of the background. One very useful function of the Nikon SB-800 flash for users who often take portrait shots is the red-eye reduction feature. This helpful mode is set on the camera, the flash and the camera work together to eliminate the red-eye. This Nikon flash also allows the user to create fun strobe light effects in a single exposure. With the many modes and options of the Nikon Speedlight SB-800 Shoe Mount Flash for Nikon, the professional or the amateuer photograher will enjoy a creative flexible lighting system for years to come.

Great flash at reasonable price
This flash is great for doing high speed sync and TTL flash photo. I use it with my Nikon D800 and D4 and get great results. For quick results I use it mostly as a bounce flash off White walls. If the wall is colored, I use a softbox modifier or the built-in reflector card. The TTL is great in most cases with few exposures requiring flash compensation. This flash works on all digital and film camera and it's only limited by the camera's functionality. It's a great flash at a good price if can be had for $200 or less. I got mine for $150 plus. Best bang for the buck as far as used NIKON flashes go ....
Best value for used Nikon flash today. You could probably get 2 of these used for a price of one used SB910. They are reliable, and durable. I bought 3 used on EBay and use the heck out them. All still working fine. More compact than SB900 series and just as bright, cheaper and just as useful as SB700 series and better and more feature laden than SB600.

Nikons great little flash.
I have shot with an array of Nikon brand as well as after market flashes and this SB800 is the one I have come back to and have purchased one for each of my three Nikon DSLR camera outfits as well as one extra as a back up; and they have all been bought used on Ebay. This flash just keeps on firing. ( I do have a Quantum battery power pack hooked up to it to get me more flashes). It makes my "slow" lenses work about as well as my "fast lenses. I shoot a lot of night time dirt track racing, and I have yet to shoot this flash on full power! Plus it is very easy to sync 5 flashes together for a great studio light set up as well. Just a great hot shoe flash! Old reliable light unit
I have yet to be burned buying any gear off of ebay, however in these times any place you can save a few dollars is good. Doing digital event and wedding photography, SB-800's are the standard and while I have many lights available to choose from,this is the first choice. With the right diffuser they will mimic studio lighting and for the limited punch SB-800's have it suits digital photography just fine. It does have some limitations for every situation, but you can't beat its on camera portability and decent recycle time. Having to shoot alone with one light and moving around there is no way to do it lighter or faster. Not having to carry a heavy power pack or crazy flash bracket, even better. The unit I just got was missing a case and the extra battery holder. The book is ...
