Reviews
"The people in Miss Flagg's book are as real as the people in books can be. If you put an ear to the pages, you can almost hear the characters speak. The writer's imaginative skill transforms simple, everyday events into complex happenings that take on universal meanings." --Chattanooga Times "This whole literary enterprise shines with honesty, gallantry, and love of perfect details that might otherwise be forgotten." --Los Angeles Times "A sparkling gem." --Birmingham News "Watch out for Fannie Flagg. When I walked into the Whistle Stop Cafe she fractured my funny bone, drained my tear ducts, and stole my heart." --Florence King, Author of Confessions of a Failed Southern Lady "Admirers of the wise child in Flagg's first novel, Coming Attractions, will find her grown-up successor, Idgie, equally appealing. The book's best character, perhaps, is the town of Whistle Stop itself--too bad trains don't stop there anymore." --Publisher's Weekly From the Trade Paperback edition.

Absolutely perfect. Condition is beautiful and I highly appreciate the care and respect that went into packaging this book. In fact I ordered this book from you since your reviews said that you securely package the books. ( unlike some that throw them in a flimsy envelope and send them off. ) It's of great pleasure to trust that the book is well protected right to your doorstep. Thank you very much for your special care and touch. I would definitely order from you again !

  • About the author

When I read a book by an author and especially read it several times, I look into the authors life to find out more about the person. I know we all are a weaver of words, but what has happened to us in our lifetime is a sum total of all that we are. So, I looked into Ms.Fanny Flagg and found out why I loved her books so much. She was outed by Rita Mae Brown, who is an accomplished writer in her own right, and at least one of her books reminds us of another book Ms. Flagg wrote, Daisy Fay and The Miracle Man. Rita Mae told in her book how she met Ms. Flagg, at a party thrown at Marlo Thomas' house and a host of feminists were there. A photographer came over to Rita Mae's table and asked, "Is this the table for the lesbians?", and heard, "No, these are the lesbians who didn't bring their ...

  • 21 years late and still a great read

Although this book came out in 1987, I just now decided to read it after my sister suggested it to me. I saw the movie when it came out ten years ago, but had no idea the book was so much different. The detail, and all the different characters I didn't even know existed! There was so much information about the characters, it blew my mind. I could not put this book down. This book is like night and day compared to the movie. So so different. I loved the movie, but when I read this book, I was suddenly disappointed in the movie. Oh well. This is truly one of the best books I have ever read. I laughed out loud, cried...the works. If you haven't read it, read it!!

  • Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe

I already owned this book in paperback. I bought it in hardcover, because it is now my favorite book and the paperback fell apart because I've re-read it so many times. I was amazed at the intricate weavings of the story, the way all the characters' lives are intertwined, the way she travels from past to present and back. Flagg addresses issues of today and yesterday, in a matter of fact way that only a modern southern novelist can. I now own all of her books, and all of them refer to each other in the world she has created.
