This is the original Godzilla film which started the series, now with 28 installments. This is also the film which really kicked off the giant monster genre in the U.S. which has lead up the the more recent releases of movie such as Cloverfield. You have to understand that this is an old movie (U.S. release 1956) and it's part what is called the "B Movie" genre which means little to no ground breaking special effects but if you like Science Fiction and especially if you like monster movies this one is a must have and is usually considered one of if not the best of all giant monster movies. The tone in this film is the darkest of all the Godzilla films, so much so that it could actually be considered a horror film instead of Sci-Fi. Godzilla is the embodiment of the horrors of nuclear ... This is the original Godzilla film which started the series, now with 28 installments. In a nation struck by the true horrors of the atomic bomb Godzilla is a terrifying example of what could happen when man kind oversteps his bounds. overall a great and absolute classic, and one of my personal favorites.

Still THE Best Godzilla Film
It's amazing how the originals always stay on top - granted, many of the other movies were good and did shine, but the original Godzilla will always be the best. One reason this movie is so great, is because the special effects were amazing in this movie (given the time period it was shot in). The story is so well developed and it is a true monster movie classic. Face it, Godzilla spawned other movie monsters (Gorgo, comes to mind). One reason I like this movie is because for about the first half, we don't even SEE the monster. We hear, we watch stories, we see the wreckage he created upon the city...but it's not until about half way through that we catch a glimpse of the famous beast. Plus, it's a great story because Godzilla isn't presented as some cheesy, over grown super hero like he ... Godzilla fans who have only seen the more recent films over the past several years should sit down and see the roots of Godzilla; see where he really came from. A must have for any Godzilla fan.

My Love Of Old Monster Movies
This was the first Godzilla movie I beleive and the naration and the staring of Raymond Burr make it a classic. The special effects are very primitive , but thats what makes it so COOL! The effects look like a miniterature H.O. train set, but the creature looks real and the fact that I was an early teen when I watched these movies after school makes them nostalgic and brings a warm comfortable feeling to see these movies again now that I'm 47. I remember going to the movie theater as a youth and watching a triple feature of Godzilla vs. Mothra, Journey to the center of the earth with Doug McClure and another movie I dont remember because we were running around having fun and being kids. Those where great memories as a kid and hope kids nowdays have as much fun. I Wonder? Anyway thats my ... Great disc and typical monster movie!
I wanted this because Raymond Burr (Perry Mason) is in it. I remembered seeing it years ago. The movie is a typical Godzilla movie of that era-the 50's. It was entertaining and I would recommend it to anyone interested the early Sci Fi. The disc was in perfect condition and played without any issues. Thanks.

Godzilla DVD
The DVD was in excellent shape. Raymond Burr narrates most of the movie but there are no closed captions for the English or Japanese. It is a great historical film and worth seeing without the CC. I am happy with the quality of the DVD.
