The COOLPIX 950 digital camera from Nikon is recognizable for its swivel-lens design. Because the lens rotates freely around the camera body, it is easy for the photographer to take pictures from tricky perspectives and unusual angles. This flexible configuration is also handy for shooting high-quality self-portraits and for taking candid photographs.The Nikon COOLPIX 950 camera was released in 1999 and comes with a 2.1-megapixel sensor that can produce pictures with a 1600 by 1200 pixel resolution. It also has both an LCD viewfinder and an optical viewfinder. It is easy to insert or remove a memory card from the rear of the camera to store and transfer pictures. This camera comes with a carrying strap to make it easy to carry.The 2-inch LCD display is easy to read, and the 3x optical zoom, 2.5x digital zoom lens is equipped with auto focus for quality photos even from a distance. When you’re taking pictures of family and friends, you’ll appreciate this camera’s red-eye reduction flash mode. There’s also a synchronized slow flash setting that is great for nighttime photography. A lens cap protects your camera’s lens when it’s not in use.The Nikon COOLPIX has a maximum shutter mode of 1/750 second and a minimum of 8 seconds. The exposure compensation is ±2 EV range in 1/3 EV steps. The exposure modes you can choose from include program, manual, shutter-priority, and aperture-priority.The large RAM buffer makes it possible to take continuous shots at a rate of 1.5 fps, and the serial port lets users easily connect 950 cameras to a computer to view or transfer files. The COOLPIX supports still image formats of JPEG and TIFF. You can take black-and-white photos using this camera, and you can also make panoramas. In Playback Mode, you can organize your photos into folders and view your pictures as a slideshow. The Print Set option prepares your photos for printing.This Nikon has two main modes: A-rec and M-rec. The A-rec mode will automatically focus, choose a shutter speed and aperture value, and perform white balance to capture superb images. In the M-rec mode, you adjust all the settings yourself, giving you full creative control over the final result. Take advantage of autofocus area, manual focus, sensitivity (ISO), white balance rate, best-shot selection, and advance rate when shooting pictures.The Nikon COOLPIX can be connected to your TV or VCR with a video wire to view your photos on the TV screen. The COOLPIX has a 28-millimeter threaded lens. COOLPIX lenses have a macro focus range of between 2 and 30 cm.The COOLPIX has a battery duration of up to 60 minutes. There is an adjustable sleep mode built into this camera that helps to preserve battery life. This Nikon has an LCD with built-in display rotation. The dimensions of the Nikon are 1.4 inches by 3.01 inches by 5.6 inches, and it weighs 12.3 ounces, making it easy to carry. The 950 COOLPIX digital cameras include a flash-sync socket that is compatible with Nikon external flash units.

    Awesome Camera even at 2.0 MP

    Ok, a friend of mine 6-7 years ago retired and said he had a part time job taking pictures for a realtor so they could post the photos on their web site. He showed me the camera he had just purchased a Nikon 950. I've been into photography for years and was immediately impressed with the camera. All of the features and quality of pictures even at only 2.0 MP. Since then I have picked up several on EBAY and use it for listings and just day-to-day photos. A very nice camera with a few things that could have been better, i.e., the silly battery door problem and non-replaceable clock battery. Give this camera 14-16 MP and Nikon would have an instant winner. It focus down to 1/2 inch (great for EBAY items), just an awesome camera. One of my when you have time projects is to take parts ...

    Nikon CP950 amateur review

    These digital cameras can still bring a good price on the used market and for good reasons.Mainly the Nikkor lenses.Even though they are only 2.1 megapixels,excellent photographs can be taken with practice with the many manual options. Details can be found on the internet from the many reviews. The Auto mode is very capable when plenty of light is available for focusing. My main interest lies with the many available 28mm lens attachments. I have adapter systems for my telescopes and microscopes. Since it has an internal zoom, this makes these cameras easy to attach for budget astrophotography and microphotography. The one drawback being that the shutter timer is coupled with the macro/focus button. This can be gotten around with either a fabricated shutter release or setting to infinity ...

    Still a Value

    I won't go on and on about these little gems of past, except that they are troopers. 2.1 Megapixels may not sound all that appealing with all of the "big guns" out there now, but for less than $50 on Ebay, you can have a true Nikon JAPAN camera in the sturdy magnesium body. They will last forever if you take care of them, and the only real concern with the whole Coolpix 900 series is the flawed battery door, which was a poor design and can break easily if mishandled or over time..BUT.. I still own 5-6 of these, and they all are still plugging away in fine form. You can buy an easy and ingenious battery door fix frome www. stonepics.com , which will cure all broken battery latches for most of the 900 series; i.e., 900, 950, 990, 995. It simply incorporates a neatly-trimmed metal baseplate ...

    Nikon 950 coolpix camera review....

    I recently bought a replacement Nikon 950 coolpix camera as my original finally died. Here's why; Powerful flash...much more than my newer ones in the 3-400 price range, at least. I love the body twist function where I can hold the camera high above my head and see what I'm shooting. But most of all, I love this camera because of the timer function for doing self-portraits which I'm inclined to do for art's sake. The 950, unlike new digital camera's offers the option to keep the timer active after each picture. Nothing to reset like the new camera's. I can set I believe from 1 minute to 5 minutes before it shuts off the camera, and I usually set for 2 minutes, strike a pose, and just hit the button and get into position. Very well made camera.     This camera has features that newer cameras lack

    While 2.1 megapixels may not sound like much today, what this camera does with it may surprise you. The main reason for extreme resolution in my opinion is to allow editing to fix composition and framing problems. You can achieve composition before the shot with this camera that will eliminate the need for later editing, and without the expense of a DSLR. Especially handy is the optical viewfinder, which zooms in and out for accurate framing, and it will save you lots of headaches on a bright day. Interchangeable lenses are available for fisheye, wide angle and telephoto that can give your gadget bag everything you need, from interior shots to construction sites.
