Absolutely delightful ... and useful!
This book is a great combination of little tidbits of info, and historical info, about Finland and Finnish people. As a second generation Suomi-American, I found it totally delightful. And the recipes are terrific, too. The most interesting thing is that the recipes themselves tell you a lot about the unique culture of the Finns. And the author has adapted the recipes for American kitchens (e.g, forms of measurement, types of ingredients). A total A+. Even my mother, who was raised by parents who came from Finland, loved it, and it sparked a lot of memories of the foods she ate growing up.This book is a great combination of little tidbits of info, and historical info, about Finland and Finnish people. Neat book-3 copies at my house
While reading the Finnish recipes it is like a history and geography lesson as when you realize all the simple ingredients that are used. Many root vegetables and items that are available in their country. I bought this for a friend of mine who is Finnish. My daughter saw it and liked it so much I gave it to her and ordered another for my friend. I am now watching ebay to order another one for myself. The recipes are totally simple with items readily available, probably already in your pantry. If you are looking for something where you add a jar of spaghetti sauce or 8 oz of tofu, this is not the book for you. These recipes are so simple which gives you an opportunity to put your imagination to work and add some of your own ideas and ingredients. There are other cookbooks from other ... We really have been enjoying them and trying some of these simple recipes, mostly "comfort foods". My son-in-law does a lot of hunting, there are some recipes for wild game and for stuffing sausage that they are anxious to use this fall. It's always fun to see how people in other countries eat and cook.

FINNISH COOK BOOK -- Contains both recipes and history. A great find!
I am excited to have this book -- mainly because my husband is half Finn -- his two Finnish grandparents both came from Finland in the late 1800's. Not only are there great looking recipes, but I, being an historian by nature, love the history it gives of Finland and the Finnish people. My sister-in-law let me borrow her copy for a while, so I had an idea of its content. I was so happy to find a copy on e-Bay. It is the best Finnish cookbook I have found!I am excited to have this book -- mainly because my husband is half Finn -- his two Finnish grandparents both came from Finland in the late 1800's. Excellent Cook Book!
Great cook book. I was borne and raised in Finland and this book has all the recipes, which my mom and grandmom cooked and baked. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
