Razer Lycosa Gaming Keyboard
Razer's new Lycosa gaming keyboard has several unique features. The rubber coating on the keys provides a soft, comfortable touch. You can switch between three backlight configurations via a touch-sensitive control pad. You can even use Razer's software to program each of the Lycosa's keys to work as a separate macro, either individually or in combination with one another. We're frustrated, though, by a few things left half-baked. None of the Lycosa's issues are bad enough to make us dislike it outright, and we'd recommend it--especially for confident touch-typing gamers. For $80, though, we expect Razer to follow through on the promises of its features. Setting up the Lycosa is only a little convoluted. It requires two USB inputs, as well as separate audio inputs if you want to plug in ... Razer's new Lycosa gaming keyboard has several unique features. Because the Lycosa has a single spare USB 2.0 jack on its top edge, we understand why Razer relies on two USB outputs; presumably it wants to preserve the pristine data stream for the keyboard itself to ensure typing responsiveness. Fair enough. Razer still could have added a second USB input, though, since the current one has a dedicated data stream all to itself via the second USB cable. The software is easy to set up, although hard to navigate because of small type and a less-than intuitive layout. If you don't plan on using macros, you might not even need it. The touch pad's media control and backlit profile button work without installing anything. The Lycosa's backlighting is its biggest problem. With the blue LED turned off, you're left with an almost illegible keyboard, that's similar to the purposefully blank Das keyboard of a few years ago. If you're not secure in your touch-typing prowess, the reasonable thing to do would be to turn on the Lycosa's backlighting, which reveals the letters on the keys, along with the touch pad buttons. The problem is that the lighting is so faint that in a lit room, it gives you only a suggestion of which key is which. Unlike Saitek's Eclipse II keyboards, there's no way to adjust the brightness on the Lycosa's LED, let alone the color.

If one word could describe this keyboard, it would be: Amazing. Where do I begin?! Well, I think a rundown of the look and feel of the keyboard would suffice before delving into its features. The outside of the keyboard looks like a beast - it's solid, durable construction alongside it's sturdy and well-attached detachable arm wrest makes for a sturdy piece of gaming machinery. It contains all of the features of a standard keyboard, but to truly appreciate the power of this keyboard you need to look at what is "under the hood" and the software powering such a piece of equipment. The bundled software, included with purchase on a CD, lets you record Macros, change the backlighting, set custom keys, and much more. Speaking of "backlighting", this keyboard - like many others that this company produces - has some cool features. Unlike your conventional keyboard - which is constructed from slippery plastic keys, the Lycosas' keys are constructed from non-slip rubber and are leaser-etched for a clear backlight. Upon taking a closer look at the software, and toying with the backlight toggle button in the media cluster, you will notice that it has three main options: Backlight Off, Backlight On, and WASD Cluster Lighting. What is this "cluster lighting", exactly? Well, say you are playing a game and you only really need the WASD keys, but still require backlighting. Press the button and the entire keyboard will go dark except the WASD buttons. A nice feature, indeed. Overall, If you are looking for a solid performing keyboard that's loaded with features and is backlit, the Lycosa will MORE than suit your needs. All of its features are sure to suffice even the most needs of computer users (such as myself). However, the price of the unit may be a bit higher than some may want to spend - costing you just over $80. PROS: - Packed with features - Excellent response time - Gold-plated USB connection - Sturdy construction - Well-laid, non-slip rubber keys - Different backlighting options - Built-in USB, Microphone, and Headphone ports CONS: - Unit's cable is thick and cumbersome, since it has a two USB, one Microphone, and one Headphone jack to connect along with it - Price (May be steep for some users) - Bundled software is geared towards advanced users

Razer Lycosa... Nice, functional and great experience gamer.
This keyboard is very versatile. Nice backlighting on the keys. The feel of the keys to the touch is smooth and fluid. The macro keys software is very useful and easy to use. The downside is that you can't customize the background color of the button illumination. But functionality is amazing.

nifty gaming keyboard
I love that its backlit and is easy to use and understand. Only complaints are the keys have a rubber finish that collects finger oils and rubber rubs off easily, also there is no adjustment to the intensity of the backlit (wish it were a tad brighter) Also, would been nice to have at least 1 application key. Overall, its a nice keyboard and i would buy it again.

I love this keyboard! It is perfect for gamers and anyone how wants a quality keyboard that looks awesome. It has a USB port on the edge on the keyboard, which is pretty handy for me. It also has speaker and mic inputs for a gaming headset. It also lights up, which looks really cool in the dark or low light and you can adjust it too. The touch pad in the upper right hand corner is great, it work flawlessly with Windows Media Player and Windows 7. You can also program the keys, it you want, with the included software. There is nothing I can say that is bad about this keyboard. I highly recommend this keyboard for gamers and anyone that just wants a really nice high quality Keyboard.I love this keyboard!
