Nice Tivo, but needs a HD upgrade
I have wanted a TiVo for a long time and this one was at a great price, that's because it's a Second Generation, and they are more advanced now. I could use a bigger hard drive, because it fills up quickly, especially if you record a few movies a week, along with TV shows. I may try to do an upgrade myself, if it's just a matter of adding a bigger hard drive. Also, I have to figure out how to hook up my DVD player to it.I have wanted a TiVo for a long time and this one was at a great price, that's because it's a Second Generation, and they are more advanced now. Older Tivo, but still an excellent bargain.
Excellent product. Had one for years, the only thing is that the hard drives over time can fail. Weaknees.com did my 200+ hour upgrade. Thats alot of shows! Simple to use, menus are easy to navigate. I save lots of time and money buy programming in a season pass and only watch the movies I want will less time during boring commercials. Save money on rentals, just have tivo look for them!

How TIVO gets you.
TIVO built a product where the power supply is easily broken with any slight mishandling of the unit. This happens because the manufacturer used solder to hold a critical heavy piece in place. Solder is never to be used in such a fashion--it is strictly an electrical conductor between two other conductors. Also, if you get a unit where the owner has replaced the hard drive, he may run into problems because the formatting of the drive is a difficult if not impossible process for any but the most experienced tech. It is nothing like formatting a DOS drive. TIVO reminds me of AOL in the way that it maximized profit at the expense of customer good will. My advice is that you stay away from TIVO products. I purchased this item because I have always wanted to record TV programs that I enjoyed and would want to see again whenever I wanted to,what really sold me on this item was that I could record TV and transfer the recorded TV program to my computer and if I wanted to could put the recorded program on a DVD (that only plays on the computer)that way I never have to worry about the amount of hours or disc space, I have satellite TV and it is compatible, but some of the newer versions of the item are not compatible with satellite only cable or antenna, also I was not aware that once I purchased the item I had to purchase a package plan from the manufacturer to use it, for the most part though the item is perfect for for what I am able to do with it, it is a step better than the standard DVR ... quite good after connnected to update tivo
really neat once get hooked up. took some doing to get connected due to digital phone service. so i had to secure a tivo wireless g adapter so the tivo could update programs via my home wireless network. since connected it works great once you get used to the munu options. would recommend getting a dual capable dvr in the future. thanks
