Many of the greatest Rock'n'Roll songs ever recorded are on this CD ! Unless you're very young or you've been living on another planet for the past 50 years; you probably already know that. On the off chance that you fit into either one of those categories; or that you simply never had the opportunity to hear REAL Rock'n'Roll, here's the story: Chuck Berry, more than anyone else, wrote the Rock'n'Roll songbook. He wrote more R'n'R classics, or standards if you prefer, than anyone else. Chuck was handsome, dressed well, played beautiful Gibson guitars and also incorporated stage moves such as the Duck Walk into his shows. He contributed as much as or possibly more than anyone else to the image of Rock'n'Roll. ... Many of the greatest Rock'n'Roll songs ever recorded are on this CD ! It's not as important as the music, but the visual aspect is part of the culture of Rock'n'roll, and ultimately an integral part of the art of the genre. Chuck Berry has a great voice for Rock'n'Roll music, and he is a great singer. It's true that his range is somewhat limited; but the tone quality of his voice is just right. Chuck is one of the greatest Rock'n'Roll singers of all time; and can also sing Pop, Country, Blues, and Soul very well. Chuck Berry is the most influential Rock'n'Roll (and probably R&B) guitar player of all time. There may be faster and more fluid Rock guitarists; but everyone studied and learned Chuck's guitar licks-- from Jimmy Page to Jimi Hendrix-- from John Lennon to John Fogerty-- from Johnny Winter to Johnny Thunders-- from Lou Reed and Sterling Morrison to Dave Edmunds and Alvin Lee-- and Leslie West, the Grateful Dead, the MC5, Brownsville Station, and a million other guitar players-- great and small. And more than any other band: the Rolling Stones. Chuck's influence on Pop, Rock, Country, and Blues guitar players is staggering, almost incomprehensibly so. There are probably other Chuck Berry CDs available which have better, remastered sound than The Great Twenty Eight; but I have to say that the song selection on this release is close to perfect. This CD is a satisfying representation of Chuck Berry's monumental musical legacy.

A great collection of Chuck's music!
In the past, I never delved much into Chuck Berry's work ... although I got a real kick out of seeing his documentary concert film, "Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll" back in the late 80's. (Keith Richard's tribute to Berry around his 60th birthday, and one movie that's worth doing some research to track down.) I always admired what he created. The guy is, after all, one of the inventors - if not THE inventor - of rock and roll. So, after seeing this particular release of his collected music rank so high in Rolling Stone's '500 Greatest Albums Of All Time' book, my interest in Berry was reawakened and I decided to explore his song catalog a little further with this CD. This collection is probably about as good a bargain (and representation) as anyone will find on Berry's oeuvre. It's a very ... There's no fluff. (His only actual #1 hit and, unfortunately, maybe worst song -'My Ding-a-Ling'- is not included here...thank goodness!) There's no unnecessary filler that so often comes with 'greatest hit' packages. What you are left with are the legendary signature tunes, along with many great moments of songwriting, playing and performing. It truly stands behind its statement of 'Twenty-Eight Greats'. In listening to this collection, I've discovered what a great master of words Chuck Berry truly is. He's been well-known as rock's greatest poet and it's easy to know why here. His observations of youth, cars, school days, love... among many other subjects, are done with a fine eye for detail, wit and intelligence. It's also exciting to hear the overall sound that Chuck Berry brought together in his music recordings. The lead and rhythm guitars, the jazz-tinged piano of Berry's longtime colloborator Johnnie Johnson, the great fundamentals of bass/drums, and the accomplished, fully-realized vision of this music make for an intoxicating listening experience. What an amazing time it must have been to hear something this new during an age when popular music was in need of a major shift in styles! In short, a great look into an artist's career and a solid recommendation from me!

If you like Chuck berry,this is a great CD.I'm a professional musician,sold my vinyl years ago and slowly but, surely have been amending my music library with items that I deem precious.Mr. Chuck Berry, is in my opinion, the King of Rock'n Roll guitar. He is NOT alone, as Duane Eddy,Link Wray,Johnny"guitar" Watson,Scotty Moore,Earl King,Paul Burlison,Buddy Holly,Richie Valens and countless others have also thrown their hat into the ring of stars,but it is MR. Chuck Berry who defined the essence of Rock 'N Roll guitar. This CD will not disappoint. My Thoughts about Ebay
I like Ebay and have shopped for lots of things most of the things I have bidded on and won is things I have had in the past and wanted it again. I bidded on this Cd Chuck Berry the Great Twenty Eight because I have it on Tape and I wanted to put it on my computer and play it in my car so it is and up grade for me. I think it is great that one can shop for the past on Ebay if you can't find it any where ellse I bet you can on Ebay that is my thinking and I have not been let down yet. Evevn my Mom has had me look for things she likes from years ago and I have foun what she was wanting to. I can't see any one not liking to find a good deal and getting what thay want or even need so I my self will be on line Bidding a lot the only thing that limets my like of Ebay,Winning,a good Deal,getting ... I like Ebay and have shopped for lots of things most of the things I have bidded on and won is things I have had in the past and wanted it again. I bidded on this Cd Chuck Berry the Great Twenty Eight because I have it on Tape and I wanted to put it on my computer and play it in my car so it is and up grade for me. Every old car meet should have this playing in there cars.
This is definitely Chucks number one selling CD,the sad part is he only gets a dime for each one sold.thank goodness chuck has always known the value of a dollar and has put away quite s bit and had an honest bookkeeper named Fran that has been with him almost forever. If chuck stil had the energy he had at Toronto rocknroll show 1969 on dvd.he could easily get half a million a show,"his best raw live show in my opinion and sounds the best on VHS before it was remastered for dvd. a DJ can play his music an young girls that have never heard him before will all hit the dance floor without ever waiting for a guy to ask them to dance!This is definitely Chucks number one selling CD,the sad part is he only gets a dime for each one sold.thank goodness chuck has always known the value of a dollar and has put away quite s bit and had an honest bookkeeper named Fran that has been with him almost forever.
