Product Information

The most ambitious peripheral-driven game at the time of its release, Rock Band encourages aspiring musicians to drum, strum, or hum to classic and current rock songs instead of being limited to one specific part. Developer Harmonix Music Systems, who created both the acclaimed Guitar Hero and Karaoke Revolution franchises, expands the rhythm genre by introducing a four-player cooperative title featuring four distinct roles: drums, lead guitar, bass guitar, and vocals. To support this endeavor, Rock Band offers a custom designed drum kit, microphone, and guitar peripheral, all of which can be purchased separately or together with the "special edition" bundle.<br><br>Fans of the developer's previous hits will feel right at home with Rock Band, as the underlying engine incorporates many of the same ideas. To "play" the sound with your selected peripheral, you must hit the right color-coordinated notes in time to the music. The singing aspect is identical to the one used in Karaoke Revolution, where your voice's pitch and phrasing is scored on how close you croon to the selected track. Male or female rockers can be created with a choice of hairstyles, body types, faces, clothing, tattoos, and even personalities before embarking on a "World Tour." Each tour can be played using only one of the instruments or as part of a band with up to three friends. <br><br>Performances at different cities earn characters star points to unlock additional songs or venues as well as cash to purchase new clothing and accessories. Online support is included along with various competitive modes, such as head-to-head battles with a choice of instruments. Rock Band ships with 58 licensed songs spanning five decades, with original master recordings used in all but seven tracks. Among the featured songs are "Gimme Shelter," "Don't Fear the Reaper," "Creep," "Tom Sawyer," "Enter Sandman," "Reptilia," and "Sabotage." Online players can also purchase new songs from artists such as The Who, Metallica, and The Grateful Dead soon after the game's release.

    Fun for all ages

    This game is great for learning to play with the " Guitar style controller" It is compatible with the Guitar Hero controllers. so pretty much anyone can play a tune in easy level mode with very little or no practice. Medium level and up incorporate all 4 fingers into the song and are great for improving your eye to hand reaction. I have been a "Real Guitar Player for over 25 years and I notice my finger speed and dextarity have improved as well as my hand strength and stamina. if you have the drum and mic and 2 guitar controllers you and three friends can get a band going that actually ROCKS! Whoo hoo I give it 4 out of 5 because a lot of the songs are pretty abscure to me and I listen to music pretty much when I'm awake so absure to me is saying something however there are a lot of tunes ...

    Rock band is Awesome

    Awesome game.!! Sold it several years back and wanted to get back into it..replay value isn’t that high for me but it’s a fun game to chill back on and vibe.

    Better than Guitar Hero?

    Hard to say, Rock Band definitely has a wider selection of songs and a way better Downloadable library, compared to Guitar Hero's laughable selection. But truth be told, I sort of like the Guitar Hero interface a little better, in terms of actual note playing. It just feels a bit more realistic. When it comes to customobility (is what a word?) Rock Band hands down, better interface, create a character, its actually exciting when you're playing on stage. Please note: I only have a a guitar, no mic or drums. (I tried using the standard Xbox headset, either it don't work so well or I'm a worse singer than I thought.) So bear that in mind.

    Really good game

    Just wish you didn't have to play the tour to unlock all the songs...it's very time consuming...but I guess it helps you get a better feel of all the songs the game offers and in the end you end up liking more songs that what you originally liked

    Great fun to be had by all works well with real instruments in the background

    During these hard times when you can't go to the entertainment let the entertainment come to you. If you have all the instruments this game like the entire series is a blast with friends. I view the amount of content a person gets is outstanding for the current price point. Its like interactive karaoke and the later series allows pro instruments.
