Product Information

New York cop Frank Keller is on the trail of a serial killer who murders men answering personal ads in the classifieds. The ads, written in poetic couplets, are quite romantic, but those who meet their mysterious author end up dead in their own apartments with a 45rpm copy of the '50s single "Sea of Love" on their turntables. Keller, suspecting the murderer is a woman, places his own advertisement in the paper and sets up dinner dates (one every half-hour) with the respondents; he lifts their fingerprints from their wine glasses and matches them against those of the murderer, taken from the crime scene. But Keller's scheme fails when he falls in love with one of the suspects and refuses to check her prints. With each passing day their romance grows hotter... and the growing evidence keeps pointing more strongly to her guilt.

    Sea of Love (DVD, 2003)

    Very sensual movie starring John Goodman, Al Pacino, and Ellen Barkin, in a true-to-life New York City crime drama. Pacino and Goodman are cops searching for a suspected female serial killer who kills her prey leaving behind the old record "Sea of Love". Being detectives from different precincts, they team up to trap the killer by posting poetic verse in the personals of the newspaper. Ellen Barkin is one of the people who answers the ad and quickly becomes a person of interest in the crimes, as well as a person of interest to Pacino who quickly falls in love with her and has a torrid sexual affair with her. In this movie, Barkin is young, sexy, and EXTREMELY HOTTTTT!!! This film has somewhat of a surprise ending and has that gritty, suspenseful, cop feel to it. Both Goodman and Pacino ...

    One of the better detective, thriller movies out there...relevant despite its age.

    This is a great thriller/romance/detective story--full of plot twists and suspense, not to mention fantastic performances and great chemistry between the actors. Barkin and Pacino are amazing, as is John Goodman in a key supporting role. I am really picky when it comes to movies. I enjoy most genres, but find that very few movies really engage and entertain me in a powerful and enduring way. I first saw this film when it came out in 1989; then recently saw it on cable. I instantly remembered how great it was and knew I wanted to have it in my collection.

    SERIAL KILLER THRILLER! CLASSIC PACINO! TRULY CAPTIVATING MURDER MYSTERY.

    Surprisingly I have found that not even some Pacino fans have heard of this "diamond in the rough". This is an earlier Pacino "twist" of a movie. Terrific writing and plot. This is classic Al Pacino all over! A homicide detective involved in a serial killer thriller. John Goodman plays Pacino's sidekick, and he never disappoints! This one will have you guessing. All comes down to the last 2 minutes of the movie. This movie will throw you a curve you least expect. I cannot imagine any mystery, crime drama, or Pacino fan being disappointed at all. I have always found Pacino "easy on the eyes" which is a bonus for me. My husband and friends all enjoyed this movies. Do yourself a favor and see it. Seriously, see it!

    "Gorgeous, Gorgeous Ellen!"

    I am a much bigger fan of Foxy Ellen / than I am of Pacino . . . Although he does an excellent job as an NYC detective in this film . . . When he notices the gun in her purse / his panicky / acting is top notch . . . Ellen vamps around playing the bizarre sexy heroine to the hilt . . . and has never been more appealing . . . I know she sold the jems / but I still love her . . . If you like Ellen / or Al / buy this DVD . . . if for no other reason / for the backstory in the extras on the DVD . . . . A fair portion of *steam-here* / so the *R* is well deserved . . . Best to all, [ dsm8488 ] . . .

    Sea of Love

    I have watched this movie a million times in VHS. I finally got it in DVD. The structure of the movie, makes it suspensful every time you see it even if you know the ending. It is a combination of mystery, suspense, character study and highly charged sexual scenes. It has it all. I fell in love with Ellen Barkin as an actress and she has never gotten proper credit for her acting ability. Anyway I highly recommend this movie as one you can watch over and over.
