Maverick (Tom Cruise) is a reckless F-14 pilot who flies by instinct and breaks all of the rules. While attending the Navy's elite air combat training academy, affectionately known as "Top Gun," Maverick romances the civilian astrophysics instructor (Kelly McGillis) and competes with crackerjack pilot Ice (Val Kilmer) for top honors. He is the quintessential rebel, upsetting senior officers with his antics and risk-taking while simultaneously amazing them with his skill. In the end, Maverick overcomes a tragic loss and his need to stand out in the crowd and proves that he can shine as part of a team. Anthony Edwards stars as Maverick's best friend and co-pilot, Goose, and Meg Ryan first garnered attention as Goose's wife, Carole. Superb state-of-the-art aerial photography makes TOP GUN, directed by Tony Scott, one of the most exciting and entertaining films of its genre. This top grossing movie of 1986 is allegedly based on a Navy fighter pilot program at the Miramar Naval Base in San Diego, California, and was filmed on location at the base.

He is one hell of a pilot, but has a 5c mind and breaks all the rules with his "seat-of-the-pants" style. In this movie, he gets his shot at Top Gun, which is elite flight training for the best-of-the-best pilots. He has a bad family history, with his father having been killed in Korea in a somewhat questionable manner. Because of this, he has always had this chip on his shoulder, having to always be better . . .but better than who? As it turns out, his father died a hero on a classified mission, but the records are all sealed, and can't be talked about. Once at Top Gun, he falls for the instructor, Kellie McGillis, who is an aeronautical astrophysicist. Maverick's counterpart is Ice Man (Val ... Top Gun Time
Tom Cruise at his best .He plays a Navy fighter pilot looking to be the best at what he does and that's flying a Fighter Jet .But when disaster strikes he decides to question his self confidence and pulls him into a world of doubt and self esteem .One of the best aerial films filmed .Awesome soundtrack

Good movie with a lot of action. Great for 4K systems.
I ordered it, so I'll keep it, but since I bought it, I discovered the world of 4K home systems. So I wound up purchasing the 4K version of Top Gun at Wal-Mart along with a 4K DVD/Blue Ray player.
