Synopsis
The Dr. Seuss classic that first introduced Horton the Elephant! Beloved by generations for his kindness and loyalty, Horton the Elephant is one of the most iconic and honorable characters in children's literature--as well as the star of two books and a short story by Dr. Seuss ( Horton Hatches the Egg, Horton Hears a Who!, and "Horton and the Kwuggerbug.") An elephant's faithful, one hundred per cent!"--we see his integrity rewarded with a surprise ending that will delight readers of all ages. • Horton Hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss

I love all of Dr. Suess stories. This one was originally written in 1940. It has all the whimsical drawings that the newer ones have only these are more like skethces and less color. I love it. Its a fun and old fashion book for children. (But I believe they were all written for grown ups as well!) I decided to buy this copy because of the excellant shape it's in. Very little writing on inside cover, example, childs name. It is almost impossible to find a book of this age with absolutely no writing in it. Not a single page is written on or torn or even folded. I'm a proud owner!!

  • Used Copy - Horton Hatches An Egg

This is another great lesson from Dr. Suess. Keeping your promise no matter what happens to you. We love books at our house, but cannot afford to buy them at retail. We usually start at the library and find books that we like. Then we go to Ebay to try and find a nice used copy for our home library. Most books on Ebay are a million times better than the very worn and battered copies at our library. Our four year old first got Horton Hears a Who. We liked it so much that we looked for the other Horton book, Horton Hatches an Egg. He liked it just as much. It was a good life lesson of keeping promises. Last year he wouldn't have understood when he was three. Four is a perfect age for introducing it. I highly recommend this book.

  • Horton Hatches an Egg

I purchased this book for my soon-to-be-born grandson. I read it to my children repeatedly and I've read it dozens of times to my 3 grandchildren. This particular copy is a "knock-off", I believe. The cost, including shipping, was about 1/4 the cost of the previous editions I purchased for my older grandchildren (They each have their own copy of the "Horton" books!), but I compared the pages of this edition to our other editions and they are exactly the same. The cover is a different color green and the book is somewhat smaller in size. Grant, my future grandson, won't know the difference or care...as long as the story is as enchanting! So, I think I got a great buy!

  • Great book with a moral

Great book, bought for my great grandson, who loves Dr. Seuss, just like the rest of the family! It has a wonderful story with a moral taught which is timeless.

  • Horton Hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss (1966)

My two oldest daughters had a Christmas morning tradition at their grandparent's house every year of reading this touching and amusing story of how the love and devotion of a "mom" to be will carry "her" through some very trying times to get the baby "she" cherishes so much . I have actually had this book in my own daycare for only about a year, and the older kids love to read it when they can sit down and enjoy it with no interruptions from a younger child. Horton works very hard through rain and shine to hatch an egg he promised to care for. He didn't quite realize the long hours and hard work it would end up being, but he follows through with his promise until the very end. This book has a bit lengthy story line to it, so it's excellent for children with a longer attention ...
