  • How to buy the best hard drive!

For years, Western Digital was my choice of hard drives, as an extensive computer user and as a computer repair technician. They were reliable and quiet. Today, though, Western Digital has sadly deteriorated into an also-ran. Their warranties are too short and, if you do have to send in a return (their early My Books were a disaster to poor design and overheating that would destroy them within a matter of weeks!), they send you a beat-up used drive that is "refurbished" - someone else's reject. Among the leaders that leaves Maxtor and Seagate, even though Maxtor is owned by Seagate now. My clear choice is Seagate because of (a) its 5-year warranty and (b) its much-improved reliability. Some years back, Seagate was my second choice. But be careful! If you buy a Seagate hard drive at retail ...

  • Product good. Ebay description bad.

Only thing keeping from excellent is low capacity. if the storage is right for you, then go for it. Ebay's standard canned blurb about it is WRONG. this is a SATA drive, not EIDE/IDE/ATA-133 (note to ebay staff - look it up on wikipedia: IDE and ATA are synonymous with PATA, and have nothing to do with SATA. remove the IDE/EIDE/ATA references from this canned description!)

  • internal hard drive

Seagate hard drives are good hard drives. Got a few of them and they perform very well, haven't had one to fail on me yet.I know there are probably better internal hard drives out there but the seagate/maxtor are dependable and work very well for me and they quite affordable if you are looking to upgrade your hard drive for your computer or to use as data storage for backing up files. To me they work as well as some of the other name brand hard drives. I am very pleased with the one's that i'm using now.

  • I got what I expected, plenty of space for an average user.

Well, i paid $8 for the hard drive. You get what you pay for, performance is solid though. I used the drive in a computer I was building for my little sister it was fine for what she used it (Internet, Microsoft office). Wouldn't recommend it to a gamer or performance user though.

  • Item didn't work

I didn't love or hate the item. Like they said this may or may not fix the hard drive problem. In my case it did not fix the issue I had with my broken hard drive. The item was easy to find and the support was great. I can't say too much more about the product other than it came with instructions and easy to install.
