A Unique View of WWII
This is an excellent series of 3/2hr. films about the Second World War. It's very comprehensive. It is comprised, almost completely, of authentic footage from the various perspectives of the American, European, and Japanese combatants. There are very limited dramatized scenes, sparingly utilized, in order to keep the narrative progressing. The excellent narration is provided by the actor Martin Sheen. There is no dialogue, but tasteful sound effects are placed throughout the series. Much of the original footage was shot in black and white, but has been very artfully colorized, which allows the viewer to be more comfortable watching the film, than would be the case with the starkness of black and white. It's definitely NOT in Technicolor. There is a lot of footage which, allegedly, ... This is an excellent series of 3/2hr. films about the Second World War. It's very comprehensive. Loved every minute of it. Worth its weight in gold.
The 3 DVD set has 6 long movies (2 per dvd) of war action. I hated history when in high school, so I'm trying to play catch up with certain things. I wanted to see a movie that has a "begining to end" chronological order with as much, but concise detail of WWII and this DVD set has it. Also, it was marketted as having never-before seen footage. With that in mind, I decided to give it a whirl. I haven't tried others; this is actually my first volume. If you (like myself) want to learn about WWII, this would be the cd to start with. There was a clip that showed women and old ladies being taught how to shoot from a rifle and doing excercise. I never knew this part of the war. Let it be known that there are some miniscule inaccuracies with dates and stuff that doesn't really affect the movie, but good to know. Also, some clips get a bit graphic like the tank running over a dead body, a dead lady next to a dead little girl (assuming mother/daughter), etc. Not for those with a weak stomach. Though graphic, it is just the actuality of war. I would recommend this video to anyone that wants to learn about the war.

One of if not the best World War 2 documentaries
Apocalypse World War 2 is a great video set of World War 2. While other movies deal with only combat, Apocalypse World War 2 also looks at the civilian view of the War. I was always interested in World War 2 and since I heard this set was a great buy for the World War 2 fan I had to buy it when I heard it had previously unseen footage. For a lot of the War documentaries the voice acting was always monotone. But with this series the commentary is not monotone and I feel myself glued to the TV trying to fully understand the scope of the conflict. Most of the footage looks like it was shot in black and white and by using the technology of today then color was added. This documentary leaves the typical ratings of movies and video games at the door and throws you into the gruesome nature of ... Apocalypse World War 2 is a great video set of World War 2. Excellent Documentry. Highly recommended for WW II Hist
I have seen may WW II documentaries, but this one was very unique. It is mostly in color and a lot of the footage I have never seen in any other documentary. I have about 100 WW II history videos, so that says a lot. Some of the footage is very graphic, which for that time period to show, is rare. I would not compare to CSI or some of todays movies, BUT these events actually happened to real human beings. The opening scene of disk one shows a body lying on the road with vehicle's driving over it. Some Holocaust scenes are also very graphic, but I think these are necessary to show the true horrors of WAR. The actual commentary part is not as good. Some mistakes were noted regarding dates of battles (Midway was listed as June 7, 1942, but was June 4, 1942)as well as a few others, ... If you know your history, you pick up these errors, but I still highly recommend because of footage. It is NOT a propaganda type video, although some of the comments are anti-nazi, which is fine. Some of the other WW II video's I rated are very much propaganda, which is fine during the war, but not very good for historical purposes. If you are passionate about WW II documentaries, you will want this for your collection. I would give it a 95 rating out of 100. Due to the more graphic nature, I would not recommend for younger viewers initially. Please watch and judge for yourself first.

Important historical information!!
A fantastic program with information about World War II that everyone should see. Most people today don’t have any idea that that generation of men that taught World War II saved the world.
