Little Shop of Horrors (DVD, 2012, The Director's Cut)
The story has a wacky, weird but definitely timeless quality about it with seldom a dull moment, while the screenplay is funny and witty. The characters are delightful, and the production values are theatrical but in a charming and colourful way. And I must mention the special effects, they are very clever and successfully underline the rest of the production without ever swamping it. The score itself is a masterpiece, the lyrics are superb and never fail to put a smile on my face and the music is very memorable and catchy. The cast do a stellar job, Rick Moranis is wonderfully nerdy and Ellen Greene reprises her stage role with aplomb, but top honours go to Steve Martin as the sadistic scientist and especially Levi Stubbs as the voice of Audrey II. Not all good stories have happy endings!!!!
I do have the original theatrical version of this movie with the happy ending in my dvd collection. I happened to enjoy it very much. However, I'd recently learned of the "Directors' Cut" of The Little Shop Of Horrors and I figured I'd better hurry up and get it before it becomes an expensive,out-of-print collectors' item. It follows the original theatrical version mostly, until it takes a dark turn. I can understand that the alternative ending wouldn't have played well with the so-called "focus groups" and "test audiences"--it would've been too frightening and dark for "all ages" family fare back in the 80s, especially for the wee ones. Since I don't have that to worry about, it's nice to see that director Frank Oz showed his darker side. In fact, many kudos to Warner Brothers ... I do have the original theatrical version of this movie with the happy ending in my dvd collection. I happened to enjoy it very much. Love the beast!
Great movie until the lengthy attack at the end. No clear resolution to the story. Steve Martin was fun to see. The female role was kinda weak...

Exactly what it says
I grew up watching this movi, however it was the theatrical version. I knew I was getting the director's cut. I thought it would at least have an option in the special features to watch the theatrical version. It's fun to see the directors cut, the ending the way it was originally written. I just wish the happily ever after ending was there too.

Great Movie, Great Condition
The DVD itself is really solid, the case is a little on the flimsy side, but this is by no means to reflect on the seller. Excellent response, brand new, and arrived early. 10/10 absolutely would get more movies through them.
