If you like Bill Engval and you like fishing, you'll probably like the movie
Let's face it, the movie isn't Oscar winning material. It's a simple family type movie. It is very formulaic. A dad with solid principles trying to teach his son a lessons on hard work and dedications. The whole notion of fishing is man vs. fish. The thought of leaning patience, learning the lake, and skill vs. high tech gadgets and slick expensive equipment, The little guy who represents a slower more peaceful time vs corporate greed. All the stereotypes are there, It has mostly clean, family humor and lacks the fart jokes of a Larry the Cable movie.Let's face it, the movie isn't Oscar winning material. It's a simple family type movie. It is very formulaic. A dad with solid principles trying to teach his son a lessons on hard work and dedications. The whole notion of fishing is man vs. fish. I was hoping for a chuckler, but got a dud.
I've seen Bill Engvall on TV once and thought he was funny (the clean kind!), Billy Ray Cyrus always has given my the creeps, but I bought this primarily to watch Harve Presnell (fell IN LOVE with him from the first moment I saw him/heard him sing in the Unsinkable Molly Brown). But this movie was obviously (I think) made for the guys, 'cause it wasn't the rip-snorter I was hoping for. I only chuckled at one scene. I gave it away to another family with men in it, and sure enough, they loved it! So gals, if and unless you have a passion for one of the men in this movie, buy it for your menfolk and avoid it for yourself! Bait Shop (DVD, 2008))
Enjoyed it, It had it's funny monents. It has to grow on you. It did display some positive family values. It is not your typical trash loaded movie. You know every movie has to have it's sex scene in it for some reason. This one just skirted the edge of it with a gesture, but it teaches truth verses dishonesty, and standing up for what is right and the family standing together.
