Decent machine / good value, but has quirks.
Overall, I give it 4 stars. In a nutshell, it sews well but is not very intuitive to run, if you're very accustomed to sewing on old/vintage machines. The manual for it is not organized well at all, and you have to skip around in it to piece information together. To save you some time: 1. The lever that raises & lowers the presser foot is on the right, not at the back. Get used to using your RIGHT hand, lol. 2. Start the upper thread tension high, like 6-7 and adjust it from there. It has to be high or you get thread loops on the top side. 3. The stitch length number does not represent # of stitches per inch, but it might be some # per centimeter. (I haven't determined that.) Try a few stitches on scrap fabric first and decide what number you need to set the dial ... Overall, I give it 4 stars. I'll preface this by saying: I collect sewing machines, and I have a lot of old good ones that were made in the early 1900 through 1979 and have all-metal drivetrains and cam stacks, and this machine is *not them. For a new machine at a bargain price, it's great. It's lightweight and easy to tote around on vacation or to quilting class, or whatever. It's not made to last for decades, nor is it designed for very heavyweight fabrics. *None* of the new machines are. This machine is a nice supplement to my collection of heavy old workhorses, and it does a number of stretch stitches that they can't do. It will be useful for sewing lingerie and t-shirts and such. This machine works well for sewing knits and lightweight fabrics. It comes with a nice little package of attachments, and I believe that it also can use the Singer and other standard low-shank attachments like walking foot and various feet for flower stitching, ribbon attachment, etc. It's taken me a little time to get used to it (because it uses a system of its own,lol), but it's a decent little machine for someone who wants light weight, portability, stretch stitches, and low price.

Great solid, sturdy & quite, yet light weight machine.
Sews several layers of denim with easy. Bobbin & machine treading is easy. Switching from one stitch to another is easy. Stitches are evenly spaced. I don't do a lot of sewing anymore, just hemming & mending, but feel this machine would handle just about any sewing project. So far I have not fine anything I do not like about this machine.

Wonderful item at a great price!
I have a $900 Singer machine that is only a year old. It has been acting so screwy lately, and I don't have the money to put it in the shop. One of the sewing blogs I read swears by this model Brother machine. I had a little money in my paypal account, so I looked it up on eBay. There were quite a few, most were over $100. When I saw this one, it's almost as if God said "There's your machine honey". Literally, I paid .54 for this machine! The $ I had in my account was from a gift. The machine is extraordinary! I am already sewing on it. No skipped stitches, no looped stitches, nothing gnarly (like my other one). Making burp cloths today. I have TWO grandsons arriving in January, so a good machine is a MUST. I am so happy. Wonderful seller! I have favorited this shop and will check back ... Quality you can count on
This is an excellent machine for beginners/intermediate Sewers. Easy to use. Strong and durable.The bobbin inserts in, no bobbin case needed. Thread holder stands straight, not a side rest. It's a wonderful and easy to use machine. I would highly recommend a Brother to anyone in need of an inexpensive sewing machine.

Perfect so far
Have only used this machine for one small alteration project thus far. Easy to set up and get going. Need to spend some time playing with all the options, but so far I'm pleased. Good size and weight for table top use.
