Stoked: the Rise and Fall of Gator

À propos de ce produit

Product Information

STOKED: THE RISE AND FALL OF GATOR, is a biographical film about Mark "Gator" Rogowski, a legendary 1980s skateboarder. Beginning with the shocking news of Gator's demise--he brutally raped and murdered a woman, buried her in the San Diego desert, and received a 31-year prison sentence--the film then starts back at Gator's beginnings when he was just an innocent 14-year-old kid. Gator set the stage for many of skateboarding's moves and styles as one of the most impressive "vert" performers of all time. Footage of Gator soaring off the ramp in a dramatic arc demonstrate his clear prowess. A devilish, cocky personality only helped propel Gator into the spotlight as the poster boy for Vision Street Wear--a brand that was once synonymous with the sport's image. As skateboarding became more mainstream and Gator got wealthy and sold out (the film features interviews with former girlfriend Brandi McClain who lived with him in a sprawling California mansion situated on an avocado grove) he soon lost his street cred and was dumped by the industry. Testimonials from Gator's former friends--skating icons like Jason Jessee, Ken Park, and Tony Hawk--shed light on the sport as a counterculture movement while telling funny, sad, insightful, and often scathing stories about Gator. This documentary from director Helen Stickler paints a sometimes inspiring yet increasingly menacing portrait of Gator that illustrates how his crime cast a dark shadow over the otherwise fun and carefree world of professional skateboarding.

Avis les plus pertinents

  • Great watch and worth checking out whether into skateboarding or not.

This was a great documentary about the skateboard sub-culture in the 80s. As a teen in the 80s, I was into the L.A. punk scene: DK, Black Flag, Minutemen; etc. but remember always seeing kids at high school wearing the Vision clothing and I remember seeing that Vision commercial all the time. It wasn't until my cousin gave me his Powell Peralta skateboard as a means of transportation that I started to appreciate skating. Now I'm 45 and after seeing this documentary 30 years later, I now have a better understanding of what when on back in the day with these OG skaters. It's very well made and progresses well about the different time frames and the changes that took place. Ultimately showing how street boarding became more popular with the kids, instead of the vertical skating which became a ...

  • happy with it :)

My boyfriend is really into skateboarding, he's been skating since the 80's and even now, this is something he really wanted to add to his collection ( of DVD's ) ... he's really into "old school" skate stuff, and I always enjoy watching documentaries & biographies of people of all sorts ... if you're into that kind of stuff you'll really enjoy this. In this film you see & hear lots of things of him and from him, also lots of input from others who were/are friends or associated with him "back in the day" ... very informative film on Gator & his life.

  • Stoked: The Rise and Fall of Gator

This is a great product. I was impressed with the movie and how well it was put together. This documentary, though about skateboarding will interest fans and non fans alike due to its content. It is an in depth look into skateboarding after the 70's and before the 90's style took over. You will love this movie.

  • wasted talent

this was a very honest look into a very tragic story. Gator had just as much talent as Hawk,Mountain, and Hosoi. He just could not deal with life when fans attention shifted from him to newer riders. If you like skateboarding and want to get a good look into of some of its great riders this is a movie for you.

  • Unstoked

It was good to see 80's skateboarding again and brought back some childhood memories that I thought I forgot. The documentary could of been a lot more in depth and longer than eighty-one minutes. It was nothing like Rising Son: the Legend of Christian Hosoi which was narrated and much more in depth than Stoked.
