With an auto shooting distance range of 0.5 to 9 m, the Canon Speedlite 188A flash renders appropriate brightness to the subject under focus. Get clear and crisp output with this Canon electronic flash unit that has an aperture range between f/1 to f/16. This Canon flash delivers maximum possible light to pictures with the flash duration ranging from 1/700 sec. to 1/50000 sec. This Canon electronic flash unit comes with a built in special colored diffusion screen which adjusts the color temperature automatically as per daylight. This Canon flash is equipped with a pilot lamp allows the camera to automatically switchover to flash mode and also works as a flash test button when the flash is on. The Canon Speedlite 188A flash comes with an AE-1 program which makes a flash mark that lights up in the camera viewfinder to ensure sufficient illumination for the desired shot.

Great quality and value for the money.
Reasonably small and lightweight. Plenty of power for most needs. Very well made and easy to use. True it is for older A series Canons. A-1, AE-1, and AV-1. But works well and full auto flash on my EOS Canons and G Series Canons on M or manual. They X synch up to 250. Bottom line: works fine on full auto flash with EOS and G Canons set on manual; and up to 250 speed. Now cheap on eBay. Excellent Canon quality. I give it 5 stars!Reasonably small and lightweight. "Looks good, but no flash"
The overall appearance of the product is excellent. I am pleased with the case that came with it as well as the instruction booklet. It was exactly as advertised. I have not yet been able to get it to work though. You see, along with this vintage flash device, the batteries were also vintage, and moderately corroded. I am trying to scrub out the battery area, but so far, have not been able to get the new batteries to make a connection. Sorry, I did not want to leave a negative review , but with the questions I was asked, I had no choice.The overall appearance of the product is excellent. A Bigger Flash in the Pan
This flash is tailor made for the Canon 'A' series. It sets shutter speed, usually around 1/60 of a second and aperature, around F8 or so. When taking pictures in the dark, depth of field is usually a hit or miss deal unless you really need to have a certain depth of field which then both speed and fstop need be adjusted to taste. Which is why the Canon 188A is so great, first by setting speed and fstop for a great flash picture, but if need something special, both the 'A' camera and the 188A can be tweaked so that your picture is what you had in mind. Give me a flash that gives me great flash pictures and will have the flexibility to adjust to make what I have in mind a distinct possibility. A disppointing experience.
The flash arrived dead in the water. Because of it's age, transit conditions could have caused the failure. I did contact the merchant and he was agreeable to refund the amount of the purchase. I am in hopes, at some point in time, I will be credited for the refund...as promised. The fact is I was disappointed the flash did not work no matter what I tried. It was never a case of money.

This product work even better than I had hope. Great value and awsome item
Back when I was a young man I wanted this flash. Instead I bought a Vivitar Flash, however I finally bought it; to add to my collection of canon vintage camera accessories, and I was not disappointed the flash looks good and works great. my canon A1 had a little trouble zyncing with it, but my AE1 work awsome with it. some of my best flash photo to date have been with this 188A flash
