Boomer City Redux
This is becoming rarer every week. We'll see if they release a cd-set of the Record Day, 2023, 5 LP boxed-set of "Nuggets II" anytime soon. No real FOMO here. If you have/had the original single LP/cd, that contained the most well-known tracks/artists from that striped-pants-with-flowered-shirt period of rock/pop. Lots of fun surprises here, but at around 100 tracks total, if there had been awesome gems buried in there, those "nuggets" would have been found and heard a long, long time ago. The 100-page photo/info-packed booklet (w/full info and a photo for each and every track!) is almost worth the price of admission This is becoming rarer every week. Psychedelically Delicious
This Rhino Records release has very little to do with the popular music of the time. The psychedelic tunes found on here are not the kind you would find on a general 60's music collection. So, don't be looking for "I've Got You Babe" or "Spinning Wheel". I was surprised to hear a song called "Primitive" by The Groupies which I know from listening to The Cramps. Another treat was the fact that this collection contained a couple of tunes from The Sonics which is one of my more favorite bands of the era and from The Shadows of Knight and 13th Floor Elevators which are also favorites of mine. With titles such as "Mr. Pharmacist" and "Voices Green and Purple" you know that a major theme that runs through some of these songs deals with the hallucinatory, fantastical, and oh yeah, the ... I would categorize the Rhino collection as what we would relate to "garage band" type music in the 90's and even today. The sound is reminiscent of that sometimes reverberating, far-away, creative sound that you get from music that hasn't been processed to death. Listening to the collection allowed me to hear some things I hadn't heard yet and I found to be really cool. I'm particularly fond of The Brigands song "(Would I Still Be) Her Big Man", The Seeds "Pushin' Too Hard", and Count Five "Psychotic Reaction". My only gripe is sticking "Louie Louie", "I Want Candy", and "Wooly Bully" on this collection. Not only are those songs over-played, but they come on the same disc and I had to forward to get to the good stuff. The artwork on the box and on the cases is really cool. Rhino also made the discs different in style and color which I appreciated. All in all, if you are looking for that underground, psychedelic 60's sound, this would be for you. If you are looking for more mainstream stuff I suggest trying "The 60's Rock Experience" on the Shout Factory label.

all you need is fuzz...
I had the original 'nuggets' on vinyl, and have been looking for the expanded CD set, finally found it! this is an almost faultless set of great songs from the period. reminds me of how much fun music was in 1966! it arrived faster than i expected too. really happy to have found this.

Great music from the 60's that I'll bet you have forgotten about. Plus some that you have not heard before. Those were the days when anyone could write a song, sing with a band and hear it on the radio!
