Synopsis
INDEPENDENT PUBLISHER BOOK AWARDS GOLD MEDAL FOR BEST REGIONAL NONFICTION OF THE SOUTH "When an elderly couple are charged with murder in the drowning deaths of thirty-five bed-ridden residents of St. Rita's Nursing Home, an emotional edge-of-your-seat thriller takes off like a shot! The players: a wily and profane defense lawyer, a ferocious prosecutor, devastated families of the victims, and a ravenous media that brands the defendants 'Monsters of Hurricane Katrina.' My advice--block out enough time to read this wonderful book in one sitting." --John Berendt, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil In August 2005, the world looked on in horror as thirty-five residents of St. Rita's Nursing Home perished beneath the rising waters of Hurricane Katrina. Louisiana's attorney general immediately targeted the owners of St. Rita's, Sal and Mabel Mangano, for prosecution. A national media frenzy erupted, labeling the couple as selfish, cold-hearted killers, willing to let beloved parents and grandparents drown--but the reality was much different. Flood of Lies tells the real story of the Manganos: a couple who sacrificed everything to save the lives of their beloved residents. Defending the Manganos was lawyer James A. Cobb, Jr, best known for prosecuting Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards for fraud in 1985. Set against the backdrop of a devastated New Orleans and Cobb's personal tale of loss, Flood of Lies is the revelatory story of Cobb's investigation into the truth of what happened at St. Rita's on August 29, 2005., INDEPENDENT PUBLISHER BOOK AWARDS GOLD MEDAL FOR BEST REGIONAL NONFICTION OF THE SOUTH Defending Hurricane Katrina's most notorious couple. In the media storm that followed Hurricane Katrina in 2005, nursing home owners Sal and Mabel Mangano were vilified for allegedly causing the deaths of 35 residents of St. Rita's Nursing Home in low-lying St. Bernard Parish. This book, written by the lawyer who defended them, reveals the gripping, true story behind the couple's heartrending decision not to evacuate and their persecution at the hands of the government sworn to protect them.

- 1***l (126)- Évaluation laissée par l'acheteur.Six derniers moisAchat vérifiéItem came exactly as the photos were shown. Seller was kind to give me an offer for the item, but I wasn't able to accept it just yet, but when I had the chance to buy this, I sent the same offer the seller offered, and he/she was cool to accept it. Item was packaged very nicely and even bubble-wrapped. This was a great find, and as a sucker for all things history and dictionaries, this was a good find. A good seller too.
- y***y (313)- Évaluation laissée par l'acheteur.Six derniers moisAchat vérifiéAs described, well packed, shipping was very slow, seller did not even ship the book until the day before the latest estimated arrival date. And I think the only reason they shipped when they did was because I inquired whether they had shipped. 4 hours AFTER my inquiry, the book was shipped! I still gave positive feedback because the book WAS as described and carefully packed for shipping.
