À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Directed by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky, SOME KIND OF MONSTER takes a shockingly in-depth look at Metallica, one of the world's most popular heavy metal bands. The documentary begins in 2001, just after longtime bassist Jason Newsted leaves the group. Surprised by this sudden departure, the remaining band members, particularly singer/guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, struggle to record an album without a permanent bass player, a situation that reopens many old wounds, including the loss of Newsted's predecessor, Cliff Burton, who died in a 1986 bus accident. The group even decides to hire a therapist, leading to a series of incredibly emotional confrontations and revelations.Berlinger and Sinofsky's movie is unquestionably one of the most revealing rock documentaries ever made. Given almost unlimited access to tape the band during a crisis period of nearly three years, the filmmakers capture the members of Metallica both together and individually in remarkably intimate detail. Although the film features Metallica's music and includes vintage footage of the band's early days, it primarily focuses on the difficulties involved with recording the 2003 album ST. ANGER. The end result is not so much a film about Metallica, but a dramatic (and occasionally funny) portrait of a long-running band attempting to understand itself.

  • Metallica: Some Kind Of Monster (DVD, 2005)

This a is HILARIOUS and VERY ENTERTAINING behind the scenes look/documentary about Metallica. Even if you're not a fan of Metallica or heavy metal - this is a great DVD that can be enjoyed for multiple viewings. DEFINITLEY a MUST HAVE for ALL Metallica fans! This a great and thorough look at the inter-relations, struggles and conflicts amongst Metallica's band members of present and past. Also see Metallica audition new bass players, Lars Ulrich and former Metallica guitarist Dave Mustane exchange words for the first time in years, and James Hetfield checks into a rehab in the midst of recording a record! Also, Metallica hires a band therapist that makes for a surreal experience throughout! Lot's of twists and turns in this documentary plus a 2nd DVD with tons of bonus features and ...

  • Struggle Within Captured

I got into Metallica after I seen the video "One" on MTV. I immediately purchased ...And Justice For All and was immediately impressed except for the fact you couldn't hear the bass guitar in the recordings. That's why they brought in Bob Rock, and their sound has benefitted to the tune of millions of dollars and stardom. I then went out and bought Ride The Lightning, Kill 'Em All, and Master of Puppets. What brutal guitar riffs! I now own all their studio albums plus a couple of live ones. I had seen A Year and a Half In the Year Of Metallica a few years back and I was impressed, but that seems like a B-movie compared to this one. Their brutal honesty (even though I think James Hetfield would have rather they not been quite as honest) shows that being in the multi-million dollar ...

  • Metallica: Some Kind of Monster

Some Kind of Moster, which mainly chronicles the period during the recording of the album "St. Anger", is often mentioned as one of the best rock films of all time with good reason. The documentary manages to give us an intimate look into the professional and personal lives of a band so closely associated with an alpha male, "f#*@ 'em all" mentality. There was no shortage of drama for the filmmakers to capture, as during this period the group had to deal with the removal of one bandmate (Jason Newsted), the hiring of his replacement, lead singer James Hetfield's stint in rehab, and a massive power struggle between Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich. It is this conflict especially, that makes the band often seem on the brink of total collapse. I would not necessarily recommend this movie ...

  • Even metal gods can be mortal

I've read mixed reviews about this video and after watching it I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I grew up listening to these guys and to many of us back in '83 we sawthem as metal gods, just as we were "invincible" teens. Now I'm 43. I've grown and so has my favorite band and I can appreciate how they have, both musically and as ordinary human beings. In this video they allow us to observe in small part the kinds of trials they face as the most metal group of all time and as just fathers, husbands and friends. Personally, I think that took a lot of balls to do. Yeah, you gotta buy a "ticket" to watch, but I don't think that was the end game for them. I actually think they wanted us, the viewer and/or fan to know that it isn't always easy to be Metallica and they go through ...

  • I recommended everyone gets one
