    WORKS A TREAT FOR AN EXTERNAL MEDIA RECORDING DEVICE.

    I bought this Seagate Pipeline Hard Drive to make an external Recording Drive for a TechniSat HDFV Freeview HD Set-Top Box. As this box does not have it's own hard drive for recording, but does have a rear USB Port, it was the only solution availabe to me. I had an External Hard Drive, a Verbatim, that contained a 1.5TB Drive which I removed to use in a PC Build, thus leaving an empty case. The Pipeline drive was easy to, and fit, into the case perfectly snugly. Some initial online research showed that this drive is mostly used for such Devices, Media Recording, and it has done the job admirably. Once fitted into the case and connected up to the TechniSat with it's original Verbatim USB cable, it was recognised and formatted by the HDFV, and ready for recording TV Programmes, which it ...

    Good value and quiet drive.

    This was purchased to replace a failing hard disk on an existing system. As the system was old speed wasn't of paramount importance so this fitted the criteria having a lower speed and consequently excellent low power consumption and very little noise. It was also backwardly compatible by the use of a jumper over pins at the back of the drive to enable this SATA2 drive to be used on an original SATA system without any problems. Be aware that you do need a micro jumper as the drive doesn't have any fitted but these only cost a few pence. If using it in the SATA2 configuration then no additional jumpers are required. Despite the low spin speed (5900rpm) of the hard drive it was actually found that the data throughput was cinsiderably faster than the older failing drive with a faster spin ...

    Unbelievable value and a fantastic upgrade!

    Simple case of slotting this hard drive in the box (an ageing Thomson HD Sky box with a failing HDD), no formatting required, worked straight away and retained all my custom settings. Far quieter than the old drive and has cured most of the problems and improved general picture/sound quality and speed of working. For this price, it's a no brainer - a faster, quieter, larger HDD than the original at a great price and delivered in a flash. Thanks!

    Fast, quiet, affordable and a worthy contender to modern drives

    I bought this hard drive as it was one of the very cheapest brand new drives of this capacity that was listed on ebay. For the price I didn't expect it to be that good and from what I've read and heard about these drives that are 'designed for media and PVR devices' I didn't get my hopes up. However, when I received it and installed it into my Dell XPS Gen4 Desktop, I was astounded with the performance and how silent it was when running. From my experience, this easily out-performs any 7200RPM drive I have used over the last few years and Windows XP boots in less than 10 seconds to the desktop, I've only ever seen these sort of speeds from an SSD drive.

    easy install and good performance

    bought this as an upgrade for an older machine that was getting full on the existing drive. It installed with no problems and has been working merrily for the last two months . has definitely increased the disc response time for this machine.
