Product Information

A HARD DAY'S NIGHT presents a fictionalized day in the life of the Beatles as they give a performance on a live television show. Filmed just a month after their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964, this film--the Beatles' first--introduces us to the unique personalities of each member of the band. The film opens with the Fab Four boarding a train mobbed with adoring young fans (mostly women) as they attempt to travel to the television studio in London. The antics of the band during rehearsals and makeup application provide a large part of the comic material in this feature, though there are other moments of pure hilarity. The unscripted vignette featuring a hangover-suffering Ringo is especially funny, particularly when he is arrested and risks having to miss the broadcast. None of this goes unnoticed by the director of the show, played by Victor Spinetti, who went on to become a recurring cast member in Beatles movies. As the clock ticks away dramatically, our heroes manage to free Ringo from jail and sneak onto the stage in the nick of time, delighted in the knowledge that they have nearly driven the director mad in the process. Arguably the first music video ever made, this faux documentary and its shooting style have been a tremendous influence on nearly every rock and roll feature since.

    Best Beatles Movie!

    Excellent movie at the height of BeatleMania! The movie is entertaining and the soundtracks are timeless classics! The DVD is well worth it! A MUST HAVE for every Beatles fan!

    Holds up well over time.

    I wanted to show it to my highschool age kids because I remembered it being fun with lots of music. When we watched it together, they followed the story but we ran it with subtitles because of the scouse dialect. They thought it was fun the way the beatles seemed to improvise everything, and they groaned at many of the jokes. They said, "it's like a musical" when the songs came on, though the music didn't always relate to the action. They didn't think the hordes of screaming girls were unusual, although I said it seemed unprecedented at the time. They liked the songs, wondered who the individual players were, admired Paul's bass, and Ringo's stage manners. I enjoyed it again, but as an adult this time.     Hard Days Night DVD

    First disc had the original movie. The Beatles really did not have much of a script for the movie. Pretty much were themselves, I think, which was great to see. Second disc has a lot of good interviews with people behind the scenes who helped make the movie. They shared stories I had never heard before in the making of the movie.

    Beatles A Har Da’s Night.

    The DVD was in great shape. The last time I watched this movie was years ago. It was much more fun to watch than I had remembered it had been. i had forgotten just how quick and clever all four Beatles could be with their comebacks to some of the strange questions asked by reporters.

    "Time machine back to my youth"

    I can clearly remember my sister bringing home the "Meet the Beatles" album back when it had just been released in the early sixties...You wouldn't think a record would change someone's life as it did....but it did..and as I discovered later it's not an uncommon story. I became a professional musician and owe it all to this group from Liverpool but I'd bet they launched almost all the babyboomer generation's mucical careers......we all wanted to be the next Beatles! As time went on I became interested in other music...mostly jazz but it seems now I've re-discovered my roots. Yes, I think I'm going through Beatlemania again at 56 years old! I orderd this DVD from e-bay, which is where I seem to get most everything these days and watching it took ...
