A young Loretta, young Cary, pre-code - who could ask for more? A sexy shocker!
Loretta Young, who became known almost exclusively for playing sweet, wholesome roles, is kind of a shocker in this romantic drama as Letty Strong, an unwed mother who survives by living life as a grifter and the next thing to a prostitute -- all for the good of her son Mickey (Jackie Kelk), who, not yet 10 years old, is turning into a street hustler every bit as devious and untrustworthy as she is. Then, one day, he's skating on the street and gets hit by a milk truck, which happens to be driven by Malcolm Trevor (Cary Grant), the owner of the dairy, who was spot-checking his operation. Letty and Mickey try to take Malcolm for a hefty sum in court until their case is blown out of the water, but Malcolm also finds himself appalled by the kind of life that Letty is setting up for the boy. ... She tries to wreck Malcolm's home and marriage, all to get her son back and take revenge on him in the process.

Cary Grant and Loretta Young before fame
I bought this DVD because I never saw it on T.V. It is a bit "outdated" but represents an era where integrity and morality were alot different than it is today. I also bought the DVD because of the two main actors, Cary Grant, and Loretta Young. Obviously, they were not yet the "stars" they would become. I felt that Loretta Young's "angelic looks" did little to convince the viewer that she is the sophisticated woman she was portraying. It is a different kind of a role for her. During most of her career she played "ladylike characters" such as David Niven's wife in "The Bishop's Wife", which also starred Cary Grant. I wasn't aware that the two actors had starred together before. Cary Grant, who is my old time favorite actor, acted as his usual debonair self, witty and charming. All in ... great old movie
From a time when talking movies had just begun, this is a really good movie. Not the best directing but for sure a movie you should see. Loretta Young is a questionable young woman raising a son in the city and letting him run wild.

Love the golden oldies. Great price.
Love this type of movie. I like a show that has a ploy with a beginning middle and end and does not use sex or violence.
