"Pinky", an old movie, but not outdated.
I first saw this movie many years ago. I enjoyed it then and now because of the message of triumph in making the right decisions. Through out the movie is the underlying message of contentment in the life that we are given at our birth (mother, father, place of birth, etc.). On this is built the wonderful opportunities that are ours to grow and flourish because of who we are. In this movie Pinky sees the importance of who she is and the role in life that she was given at her birth. Events through her life, sometimes very painful, shaped her decisions to become someone very influential in the lives of many others that would follow her. Once she made the inward decision to be who she was and not try to be what others wanted her to be, she was free. I think this movie is an excellent ... I first saw this movie many years ago. I enjoyed it then and now because of the message of triumph in making the right decisions. Pinky, a ground breaking movie, a must see
Pinky is a ground breaking movie. Having lived through the 1960's and taught ethnically diverse students for 30 years, my understanding of the roll of race in this country is substantial. This movie taught me that racism in America will only end when each individual says to himself "Character matters, race does not" Pinky wanted to be herself not some archaic stereotype. The Jeffersonian definition of what makes a person "Negro" is still alive and well and wrong. It is no wonder that Pinky was banded throughout the South. Jeanne Crain was one of the top box office stars when she made this movie. She deserves praise for risking so much to tell a story that challenged the racial status quo. It was a "career ender" decision. The fact that it did ... Pinky is a ground breaking movie. She left behind many entertaining movies, memorable characters and this understated, under appreciated classic, Pinky. I have been looking for a copy I could have in my library for many years. Now I have one to enjoy and share with others.

a greatt movie
Enjoyed watching a young girl deal with bigotry and achieve her dream of teaching nursing with the help of an elderly wealthy woman who believed in her and left her in her will the means to make her wish come true!
