When two young English cousins claim to have captured fairies on film, their photographs attract the attention of legendary skeptic Harry Houdini (Harvey Keitel) and legendary dreamer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Peter O'Toole). But are the fairies real, or are they simply the wistful projections of the two lonely girls, whose fragile spirits have been crushed by the death of a brother and the loss of a father in World War I? Based on a true case from 1917 in which the girls' photos turned out to be a hoax, but rendered with an infectious fanciful spirit that equivocates on the existence of magical creatures.

A smart but gentle film about the nature of belief
Incorporating key details of an historic event -- when two young girls provided photographs of what they said were real fairies that they had seen in their garden -- the movies explores what makes people believe in improbable things. Set amid the horrors of World War I -- with gassed and crippled soldiers everywhere -- the movie makes the case that sometimes what seems like naivite is simply hope. FALLING IN LOVE WITH MY CHILDHOOD AGAIN...
This Christmas (2007) gift was perfect for my wife- and she loved it! As much as I did, I hope! Fairy tale, or not, it reminded me of what it felt like to be a child and yearning to believe that hope was worth believing in! The fairies in this movie were incredible- what a wonderful special effect! One doesn't have to believe in fairies to enjoy some make-believe! I loved this story... every bit of it, the finding of the special place by the little creek... building the little house and rooms... talking to and loving the little fairies... And tears certainly came easily to my eyes at the great surprise at the end of the movie! I won't ruin it for you. See this film! Best ever fairy movie!
This is one of my now favorite movies! I bought this for my best friend! She is a fairy lover! She is my kindred spirit, so this movie was the perfect find for her gift! I loved it and so did she! We’ve both watch it a few times already!

Great Movie for Adults and Children.
Definitely a must see movie for those of you who have ever wondered about Faeries. This movie will surely keep the imagination and the child within you alive. I do not recommend it for children under 8, because it is NOT animated and hard to keep their interest. But 8 and up LOVE it! This was said to be a true story, but the girls later recanted their story due to years of serious harassment. See for yourself. Truth or Fiction? Very hard to believe these little girls (8 & 10 yrs old) could manufacture fake pictures in this Era. Cameras were still in their infancy. Anyway, a great little movie whether you believe it or not!Definitely a must see movie for those of you who have ever wondered about Faeries.
