Simple packaging hides fantastic disc
Fans of the movie couldn't ask for a better release at this point, barring the fabled workprint version. The picture quality is fantastic with detail and sharpness always appearing natural but crisp. Sound quality is equally great, but the real star of this thing is the wealth of special features which include a making of documentary that's double the length of the actual film. There's so much to see and discover, it's impossible to NOT recommend getting Event Horizon on blu ray.Fans of the movie couldn't ask for a better release at this point, barring the fabled workprint version. The very unique spaceship called the "Event Horizon" goes missing. Seven years later a rescue crew arrive to answer a distress call.... from the Event Horizon. The rescue mission finds all of the original crew dead and have no idea why, then the rescuers find themselves having horrible hallucinations... or are they real? From that point you would expect your usual evil alien/ship/entity picks off the rescue members off one at a time kind of film... and you would be WRONG. This is not your regular "Alien" movie ripoff, it's a horror/thriller movie that is set in space, and it's a pretty good one at that. Nothing earth shattering to be sure, but it certainly has it's own unique style and the visuals are very nice indeed. I have no desire to watch this again, but I enjoyed it enough on my ... You GOT to See This If You Are A Horror & Sci-Fi Lover
Event Horizon was written by Philip Eisner. The film came from the directing skills of Paul W Anderson who was also responsible for Resident Evil and Alien-VS- Predator. Starring Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne, we find ourselves swept into this space adventure with awe and wonder. Yet Fear is always present. We find that the heart stopping moments close to the end Captain Miller decides to blow the ship is tremendously enjoyable and tense. You may become mesmerized if watched alone at night with all the lights off where you can properly get swept up in it's claustrophobic atmosphere. We learn that the ship has brought back evil from another dimension. Dr. Weir is continually haunted by his dead wife (Holley Chant) who committed suicide years earlier. Set in the year 2047 the story ... Event Horizon was written by Philip Eisner. A salvage ship called The Lewis And Clark is sent out to investigate and brings along Dr William Weir (Sam Neil), a physics expert originally responsible for the ship's creation. They dock with the Horizon but find no signs of life and as they set about making repairs, the crew begins to experience hallucinations and sense that they are not totally alone. Event Horizon was initially unfairly dismissed by mainstream movie critics as a cross between Alien and Hell-Raiser. In my opinion this film will eventually be ranked among the classics. This movie works on your own sense of unease and seems to culminate on the crew's growing sense of anxiety and paranoia. There is no definitive explanation given for what they are experiencing. Another Dimension may exist within the workings of this space ship but are only left to wonder whether we are actually parked on the edge of hell itself. The Lewis and Clark space ship was modeled after the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. As Sam Neill (Dr. Weir) says at the end, "You'll never need eyes to see again where we are going." 5/5 for perfection and scariness. The double set is well worth the extra disc. Another version of Alien?!?
Yet another scifi films in the Alien vain. A rescue ship responds to a mining planet distress call which results in a sinister situation. The film was directed by Walter Hill under an assumed name and also uncredited direction from Francis Ford Coppola.
