The reel is okay, but the anchor storage is poorly executed.
I was surprised at how little thought went into the anchor storage unit. There should be multiple holes for the bottom roller, so the lower end of the mushroom anchor can be trapped more tightly. As it is currently designed, the anchor can flop back and forth about 1 inch, which generates loads of stress on the unit, and creates a lot of noise too. Secondly, the top of the storage unit is too tight for the 12 lb mushroom anchor shaft, so the anchor won't go all the way to the top, making the leverage of the part sticking out way too much. I also have the Anchormate II on the bow of my boat, and wish I'd opted for that version on my boat's stern. It is engineered much better, and operates as it should. The standard Anchormate, however, leaves much to be desired. I do like the line ... I was surprised at how little thought went into the anchor storage unit. Extremely pleased with this product! It works great! Very smooth operation and virtually silent. The anchor descends very quickly so that it reaches the bottom before the boat turns or floats off of your spot and it's also easy to crank back up. Rugged, high quality product! I would recommend this product to anyone, it takes all the work out of lowering and raising the anchor. You'll be pleased!!Extremely pleased with this product! It works great! Better than Attwood’s
Attached it to my pontoon, and it works perfect with 3/16 anchor line that is made for electric winches. I had to fabricate two mounting plates for it, buy the anchormate pulley kit, 2 additional smaller pulleys from Ace Hardware, and wood/sheet metal screws to make it all work correctly and without damaging the boat! Definitely a good price for a manual winch that drops on the dime and stops on the dime.Attached it to my pontoon, and it works perfect with 3/16 anchor line that is made for electric winches.
