Madness in Bear Country
Wow, found this movie both highly entertaining and highly disturbing. How any human can survive while filming themselves thirteen seasons around hungry and territorial bears is amazing. Equally amazing is Mr. Treadwell himself who becomes alarmingly stranger the longer the camera stays on him.

Tragic on so many levels....
If you are looking for a documentary about a "rough and rugged" man of the Alaskan wild, or perhaps an interesting story about a bear zoologist, you are looking in the wrong place. This is the story of a troubled man in search of himself, which I like to believe he found, within his love of these grizzly bears. Passionate about animals, particularly this group of bears, Timothy lived a life not knowing who we truly was, what he was meant to do, nor do I think he believed he was truly loved. This documentary shows a complex man full of tremendous love for the grizzlies, but sadly, tragically, very little love of Self. I like to think he found peace with the bears, he found a place to express himself and his love, freely and unconditionally. This is not a "feel good ... Most of the footage he took over 13 summers before one of the bears killed and ate him and his girlfriend. If you want to know about the bears, and about an excessive case of identification with the bears, this is excellent background. Grizzly Man
The movie gives you an indept look in to the man known as "The Grizzly Man." I found it both informative and frustrating at times. I wish that it was a little more biographical, that it gave you more info as to what compelled him to head to Alaska. The cinematography is amazing though and I learned things about Grizzlies that I did not know before. If you like this I highly recommend you watch or purchase "The Grizzly Man Diaries" on Animal Planet. Lastly, and this may sound morbid but I would have liked them to discuss more about why after 13 years a bear did finally take his life? Was it that he'd stayed to long that year? A Man Turns to Nature until Nature Turns on Him.
Amazing story about a man who immersed himself into the world of bears and loses not only his grip on reality but also his humanity and then his life. You are gripped from the first moment as you see this young man choose to live as one with the bears. His innocence in the beginning dissolves into a form single-minded madness as he loses the ability to see outside his own narrowing world. You want to root for this man but he self-destructs before your eyes until you know the inevitable way this true story must end. Endlessly fascinating, sad, joyful and very, very real.
