  • 2nd edition has a lot to offer

I've been playing RPG's since 1982, and though the 2nd edition of Advanced Dungeons and dragons is not my favorite edition (1st edition still has a darker atmosphere that I prefer) it still has a lot to offer, and its way better than 4th edition for sure. I remember playing 2nd edition when it came out and how excited we all were about it, all these specializations and extras, extra, extra stuff. We had a lot of fun playing 2nd edition and learning about Thac0 wasn't that difficult as I've read some people complain in their blogs. After you play the system a couple of times, its just as easy as any other. I don't remember anyone complaining about it back in 1989, though some didn't understand it right away. This particular 1995 printing of the 2nd edition Players Handbook is easier to ...

  • Favorite Printing

Although many people did not like the format changes made to the 2nd edition Player's Handbook for this second printing, I prefer it. To me, it seems to have a less distracting layout, and I like the artwork in this printing. I also prefer the organization of this book, but that may just be because this is the printing that I have gotten used to since I started playing second edition. As far as information goes, nothing really changed between the two printings, and any typos or vague areas in the spell descriptions are the same in both. It really comes down to personal preference in appearance and organization, as there is little difference between the two otherwise.

  • The Come Back

I had just recently started playing Ad&d2 again and decided I needed to get my own books again. Is tough when everyone needs them at the same time and have only 1 copy. I'm not a fan of the layout because I was use to the former copy. I had pages memerized for easy guiding. This redone copy makes it difficult to navigate through and the font used for the text is very Blah and anoying. Either way they were cheap (DMG & Players) to purchase and will serve there purpose. If I was able to find the former prints (with the orange cover) I would have gotten those instead.

  • Is it worth it?

The answer is simple—absolutely!. This is a must have for any DM/GM/GC/Ref collection and library, for historical and much as a reference tool. It provides invaluable info to either apply as is or "hack" to your own home brew adventure.
