Apple brings its design philosophy to the computer camera space with the Apple iSight webcam. It's an external webcam that has sophisticated looks and high performance to boot. The camera connects to a Mac via a FireWire connection, ensuring that latency and stuttering are non-issues. Housed in an all-aluminum body, the camera is slick while the 0.25-inch CCD sensor backs up its looks. The sensor has an F/2.8 aperture lens that is coupled with a resolution of 640x480. This sensor delivers smooth frame rates when video recording. It's also convenient for phone calls. You can twist the outer ring of the cylindrical body to close the shutter with a click for additional privacy. It comes with a transparent carrying case, a mounting bracket, and elegant connections. This Apple cam is a fitting addition to a modern workstation. Sporting sleek style and superb image quality, the Apple iSight camera is a titan in the world of webcams. This device is an excellent choice when you consider all of its features. Alongside a sensitive microphone and impeccable chat and movie integration, the Apple iSight perfectly complements any iMac. The iSight requires no additional software, accessories, or apps to connect to FireWire. If you are on a Mac computer, the iChat AV will automatically launch when you plug in iSight for added convenience. Also, if you are not signed up yet, it will present a dialog box to create an account. The chat feature works with existing AIM and Mac accounts. There are several mounting options for the Apple iSight webcam, including three different stand options and a tilt-and-swivel mechanism that lets the iSight record video at the best possible angle. Since the cam is sitting right in front of you at eye level, your whole head can be in view; you won't have to search for the ideal angle. This enables you to have a more natural conversation that gives the viewer more of a TV-like viewing angle. Plus, the compact size of the iSight makes it very easy to take with you wherever you go. If you love to travel, you'll want this product in your suitcase. Once the camera is mounted, it is pretty easy to adjust. You can move the camera 20 degrees up, down, left, and right. It also has autofocus and automatic adjustments, so you don’t have to worry about manually setting it. The built-in self-adjustment feature of this Apple camera works reliably. The image quality is also excellent on its own, so you don't have to worry about blurriness or distorted images with this device. The iSight device works well with chat features using crisp, clear sound properties. It has a superb microphone that can pick up conversations that are several feet away. You won’t see any photo lag from the clear photos that are transmitted. There are also no problems receiving a constant image and sound. The webcam works just as good with iMovie.     Great for Older Macs

    The iSight is the quintessential webcam for users of older Macs. I purchased one, new, in 2006 when I was using a PowerMac G4 and it changed the world for me, as prior to this very few webcams worked with Mac, and even less software was written for those that did. The FireWire 400 interface is great for transferring video at 30 fps without using a USB port or bogging down on an older machine's USB1.1 connection. While the video isn't high definition, and in fact is limited to 640x480 resolution, it does have good qualities like auto-focus and, with the proper software (try iGlasses), you have great control over the image... even moreso than with the built-in iSights on newer Macs. I have a MacBook, now; the iSight still lives on my G4, but I still occasionally use it for my MacBook ...

    Apple Original iSight Web Cam

    The Apple iSight is a great addition to any Mac that doesn't have an built in Web cam, such as the current Mac Pro or Mac Mini. It has a built in Mic and and 50mm autofocus lens. One of the parts usually not noted on descriptions is that it has a privacy "off" setting, so you can always tell when it's on or off. Internal shades cover the lens. The video quality is not as good as the current webcams built-in with the mac laptops, but it is very close. The audio is decent. And because it's made by Apple, it works seamlessly with all your apps that can use a camera. I decided to buy this because I converted my MacBook Pro into my desktop machine by adding an external cinema display, and I missed have the web cam for Skype and iChat.     Above Average Camera

    The iSight External Camera is a great camera with a few features lacking. it provides an average resolution of picture, the mounts are plentiful and innovative, and the integration with a Mac is as simple as you would expect. the downside is the inability to zoom in, an average resolution (I was expecting more, especially from Apple), and the camera's habit to heat up when plugged into the FireWire slot, even when not in use. Overall a great camera with a few areas that would have been nice if Apple could have improved.

    Apple iSight...why this was discontinued baffles me!!!

    Having a Mac Pro without the new LED Cinema display, one needs a good webcam. Well for compatibility's sake, I decided to check out the Apple iSight. I had read and heard good things about it from others, so I was confident that I would be making a good purchase. Things I like: -Bright colors picked up really well -Mic seems to have a good range so you don't sound like you are 10 feet away from the camera. -It just looks cool...haha!!! -There is virtually NO lag time in activating or in the recording (this is for sure due to the firewire instead of USB) -It works seamlessly with Quicktime, iMovie, Final Cut, and all other web chat services we have used it with -Set up was as simple as plugging it in Things I was disappointed about: -The stands for it do not make it easy to mount and ...

    Complexity in a Simplicity

    I decided to buy the external iSight to show my girlfriend a clearer image of me while we video chat. She lives in Eastern Asia and I live in North America, and thus, I mostly chat at night when it is dark or in the morning. I have the old iBook G4 (12'' 1.33 GHz) and it does not have the iSight built-in like the current MacBooks. Even so, I like my iBook G4 because it is currently meeting most of my needs. I used Macally Icecam2 prior to the purchase, however, image quality suffered drastically with Macally Icecam2, especially in the dark. iSight seemed to work better even though the image was a little bit grainy in the dark. Also, even in the morning, iSight seemed to have a better image quality. I do not know how it looks in my girlfriend's computer, but she said that she noticed a ...
