The Little Sci-Fi Movie That Could
Chances are good you probably didn't see "Moon" when it came through theaters on its short and limited release. This is all the more reason to pick it up now on DVD. Directed by Duncan Jones, the son of David Bowie, "Moon" is a contemporary sci-fi masterwork that makes its shoestring budget look like anything churned out by James Cameron or Michael Bay. Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is running down the last two weeks of a solitary, three-year contract mining fusion reactor fuel on Earth's moon. And of course, with 14 days to go before he is reunited with his wife and child, strange things start happening. Is Sam going mad? Is he really alone, apart from the company of the station's AI (voiced superbly by Kevin Spacey)? And, most importantly, will he really ... Hard Science Fiction Worth Watching
Fantastic Movie... Sci Fi at its best. Although a lot of people have not seen this film, it is a wonderful character study on what it means to be an individual. The lunar backdrop is very effective, and the sympathetic AI is a nice touch.

Moon Rocks!!!!
Wow! Sam Rockwell is the total, master thespian in this little rockbuster of a movie! Are you a fan of Rockwell's dynamic acting abilities? Well, add this film to your list at #1 for Sammy boy. Sam plays a much more entertaining and superior stranded "islander" in "Moon" than Tom Hanks ever could have hoped for in "Castaway." Just how powerful is loneliness to a man isolated for years at a time with little or no hope of returning to society? This film is so moving that you may quite literally cry by the end of the film. And if you like pissing on Corporate America like I do, then you'll also enjoy what the Big Bad Business gets in the end of the film too. :) You know that saying: "There's always a Nashville connection"? ... And I use the word "film" instead of "movie" because this is a TRUE piece of ART....a film....not a giant, blue, fluffy thing that makes millions off of drivel and off of insulting it's viewers' intelligence like more recent offerings from the "Sci Fi corner" ..... ::coughavatarcoughcough::. If you don't like the film, I'll buy it back from you and give it to someone who has good tastes. ;)

Great Science Fiction Movie
Its not often that great science fiction movies come around. Moon is one of those. It is not a high budget, blow up everyone, race through space type movie, it has no great special effects and it basically has only one cast member. What the movie does have is a great story line and a great plot. Sam Rockwell (Choke) plays Sam Bell, the lone worker who has a three year contract with Lunar Industries to mine Helium 3 on the moon. Sam is alone because Lunar Industries is more interested in saving money than in his well being. His only companion is Gerty (voiced by Kevin Spacey), a computer much like the Hal 9000 from 2001 a space odyssey. (in fact the computer was designed with Hal in mind). Gerty's sole function is to help Sam maximize profits for Lunar Industries. However things ... Its not often that great science fiction movies come around. Moon is one of those. Communications have broken down and the only way Sam has to communicate with Earth is by a relay through a Jupiter satellite link. After an accident Sam finds himself back at his base in the medical center with no memory of what has happened and there is another person there watching his every move. With the help of Gerty he tries to figure out what is going on. Sam Rockwell puts in a very good performance in this movie, much better than some of his earlier movies. Keven Spacey, as the voice of the Computer works very well. The only down side to the movie is the plot emerged a bit early, it could have been left to the imagination a bit longer without affecting the movie at all. A very interesting side note: There are quite a few Biblical references in this movie. See if you can pick them out. If your a Science Fiction Buff you will want to see this movie.
