Uneven album has its moments, but lacks previous glory.
When a band has so much in its history like Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship do, it's easy for fans to have favorites, and to be polarized like the previous reviewers are. Some fans love this album; other fans love that they found a copy of this album on CD. And some fans wish they never heard this album. All that nitpicking aside, Nuclear Furniture is an album of quirky songs mixed together seemingly just to make an album. This CD's more commercial minor hits 'Layin' It On The Line' and 'No Way Out' are good pop radio songs, but they seem to be formulaicly written to be the album's singles. As previously reviewed, 'Sorry Me, Sorry You' is another very good tune, but many of the rest of the album isn't what you'd ... Hard to Get Worse
This band re-formed in 1979, releasing "Freedom at Point Zero" and claiming that they were going to put out excellent, artistic music instead of pandering to the un-artistic demands of pop. Being good was more important than making money. They boasted of this in the songs, writing for instance in Stairway to Cleveland "**** ***, we do what we want". They put out a string of three excellent albums, "Freedom at Point Zero" (1979), "Modern Times" (1981), and "Winds of Change" (1982), the latter being their crown jewel. 1984's "Nuclear Furniture", then, was an extreme disappointment. It was a return to un-artistic pop, an abandonment of the principles they proclaimed in 1979. Coming after "Winds of Change", what a letdown. Sorry Me, Sorry You is the only excellent song on this album, No ... Jefferson Starship-Nuclear Furniture
This purchase was a replacement for the original cassette of this release. I was extremely pleased to find this listing. This is Jefferson Starship at their finest, in my opinion. The release, perhaps best known for the single "No Way Out" features Mickey Thompson and Grace Slick at their prime. GREAT release and a must for any JS fan!
