John Woo raises the action bar in this violent, romantic sequel to Brian De Palma's 1996 original. Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt, this time battling wits with rogue IMF agent Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott). Hunt is ordered to recruit Ambrose's former lover, Nyah Hall (Thandie Newton), to infiltrate his hideout. But Hunt never expected to fall for the lovely young thief he must use for bait. The romantic triangle that ensues gives the film a unique emotional balance that is unusual (and most welcome) for an action picture. Ambrose is after the killer Chimera virus and its antidote, Bellerophon; in the old days Ambrose would have been after world domination, but in this new world order of day trading and Internet stocks, all he wants is to corner the market and make a fortune.Woo outdoes even himself with a flurry of martial-arts fights, fiery shootouts, thrilling mountain climbing, and blazing motorcycle chases that lead from the beautiful peaks of Utah through the busy streets of Sydney. All of this is set to a booming hard-rock soundtrack that battles with the explosions and blasting guns for ear space. And he doesn't fail to include his trademark birds fluttering like peaceful interludes in the most threatening of moments.

    Mission: Impossible II

    MI-2 features the creative and extravagant pairing of Tom Cruise and John Woo (more explosions! more cars!). Their signature presence is evident in every shot. Robert Towne's script, though no doubt rewritten, is actually tight with strong dialogue and a solid plot. In short, the film works well on all fronts. It doesn't force viewers to think or understand what the problem is - it just gets on with it, unlike many movies that try too hard to be cerebral and clever. The casting of Thandie Newton and Dougray Scott makes the film even more intriguing, and puts MI-2 above many other films of this genre that almost reach for this but never make it. As an action film, this has some amazing shots that deserve kudos. This movie is entertaining, therefore it succeeds.

    Excellent Movie!

    This is an excellent, exciting movie. Tom Cruise is superb as Ethan Hunt. I highly recommend this movie.

    Mission Impossilbe 2 DVD

    I bought the product because I was interested in the movie and Tom Cruise. The price was right and the product was an original DVD and not a copy. I thought the movie was excellent and was a good lead in for the release of MI3, which I was planning on viewing at the theater. With the DVD I have an action packed movie with a lot of effects that I can view over and over again. ( Which I have already done many times).
