Detective David Starsky is the most dedicated undercover cop working the mean streets of Bay City, California. Maniacally devoted to his job, when he's on duty no crime goes unpunished, and he's always on duty. And that's a good thing, because he has some metaphorically big shoes to fill: his mother was a legend on the force, one of the best cops in the history of Bay City. But while his mom stuck with the same partner throughout her entire career, due to his extremely zealous brand of police work, Starsky burns through partners faster than his beloved Gran Torino goes through spark plugs. Detective Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson is having career issues of his own, he's a good cop, but his hazardously laidback personality and desire for a quick buck don't always ... He has excellent instincts, he just needs a little bit of focus to keep him on the admittedly less profitable side of the law. "Starsky and Hutch" is well-made and funny, a surprisingly simple movie that is everything it pretends to be. I recommend you see this movie if your looking for a good comedy.

Nothing Like the TV Series…
After watching it for the first time, I did not like it very much. Being a HUGE fan of the TV show, I really did not like what was done with the characters. The characteristics of Starsky, Hutch & Huggy are totally off base. If you’ve never seen the TV show, watching this movie will not motivate you to do so; which is a shame, because the TV show is SO much better. The movie was suppose to be about how Starsky & Hutch first met, albeit their friendship starts out on shaky ground. That’s all well and good, but after you meet the person that ends up being your best friend, your personalities won’t totally change from the Ben Stiller / Owen Wilson version to the Paul Michael Glaser / David Soul version. As an example, the Batman prequel, “Batman Begins” has a much better ... After watching it for the first time, I did not like it very much. He handled the car with ease and was confident and aggressive when necessary. Hutch wasn’t the bad cop-on-the-take, screw-up. He was the health conscious, level-headed, keep-things-calm side of the duo. Huggy had more style and finesse than what is portrayed by the flashy, pimped-out version in the movie. Thankfully, the car is as cool as ever and a joy to watch. Once I was able to set aside my loyalty and comparison to the TV show and watch the movie solely on its merits alone, it wasn’t that horribly bad. There are many funny scenes that are enjoyable, and the car stunts are great. During the credits at the end of the movie, there is one blooper scene with Snoop Dogg and the iguana that is pretty funny, and if you love the car, there is the blooper during the scene when Hutch sees the car for the first time that will make you just cringe… All-in-all, the actors did a good job with a good story line, and the scene with the cameo appearances of Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul is enjoyable. As I watched the movie for the second and third time, it began to grow on me. I really enjoyed the Director’s Cut feature where Todd Phillips takes you through the entire film and explains a lot about the scenes, what was done to them, from adding the computer generated subway at the beginning of the film to telling some behind-the-scenes stories. The story about Snoop Dogg’s 1976 Lincoln is pretty interesting. I understand the concept and the point of the movie, but my initial dislike was hard to suppress. I would love to see a new Starsky & Hutch movie with Paul and David back in action!! IF YOU FOUND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE VOTE. THANK YOU !!

very funny and wacky they captured a 7o's type spirit! i would recommend this to any body! ben stiller and owen wilson were very funny also the inclusion of vince vaughn, will ferell, and juliette lewis were great! i also liked snoop dogg's portrayal of huggy bear! the car looked great also! i also liked the original starsky and hutch at the end, that scene worked out great! the plot was okay and the scenery was good too! i also liked captain dobey he was a good actor and was refreshing they switched starsky and hutch's roles!very funny and wacky they captured a 7o's type spirit! i would recommend this to any body! ben stiller and owen wilson were very funny also the inclusion of vince vaughn, will ferell, and juliette lewis were great! i also liked snoop dogg's portrayal of huggy bear! the car looked great also! i also liked the original starsky and hutch at the end, that scene worked out great! the plot was okay and the scenery was good too! i also liked captain dobey he was a good actor and was refreshing they switched starsky and hutch's roles!

Take a while to grow on you... but once it does
Starsky and Hutch Another Great Wilson/Stiller/Vaughn/Ferrell Film I wasn't that excited about Starsky and Hutch, and after watching it the first time I didn't really like it. I don't know what changed but after seeing it a few times on the Movie Channel, Starsky and Hutch started to grow on me. This movie is hilarious... it just took me a couple of views to realize it. Wilson, Stiller, Vaughn, and Ferrell are perfect, and the laughs keep coming throughout the entire film. Snoop Dogg is a great addition to this film as a high-level snitch. Final Verdict: 4/5 Rent or Buy?: After a few views opened my eyes I rushed out and picked up a copy of this great comedy. This movie belongs in any comedy fans DVD collection. Starsky & Hutch movie
I was a HUGE fan of the original series and own all the dvds. I knew the movie would not be exactly the same as the show, but this was completely nothing like the series! This was the worst remake of all the remakes done of 70's shows! A tribute is supposed to honor the show it is paying homage to. This movie completely mocked it. If you watched the tv series, the original actors had a very unique chemistry that carried over into the show which was part of its appeal. Ben and Owen had none of that. Also, the characterizations were completely off. In this film, they portray Starsky as stupid and Hutch as a man barely on this side of legal. That is SO wrong. The original also was a drama with comedic moments - not a "comedy" like this film. The ONLY highlight of this mess was ... I was a HUGE fan of the original series and own all the dvds. Otherwise, I would have gotten rid of it a long time ago. Honestly, I would never have wasted my hard earned money purchasing it for myself. If Warner Brothers was smart, they would remake this film again staying true to the original premise of the series and characters and bring back Paul and David to reprise their tv roles.
