EMERALD FOREST: Director John Boorman explores the tension between primitive and developed societies in this film starring Powers Boothe as engineer Bill Markham. While working on a dam on the Amazon in Brazil, Bill's son, Tommy (William Rodriquez), disappears while wandering in the forest, presumably kidnapped by Indians. A decade elapses, and the father continues to comb the jungle in search of the missing child, while shepherding the dam to completion. During one such search, Bill is wounded after a showdown with the Fierce People, an Indian tribe led by Jacareh (Claudio Moreno), and is rescued by a blond Indian teenager he recognizes as his son (Charley Boorman). But his joy is dimmed by the engineer's growing awareness that his son is now acculturated to a life as part of his tribe, the Invisible People, and as the husband of his wife, Kachiri (Dira Pass). For him, everything beyond the jungle is now "ghost land." During the absence of the tribe's men, the Fierce People stage a raid on their village, kidnapping their young women, including Kachiri, to sell as go-go dancers and prostitutes for the dam workers. A worthy and intriguing attempt to dramatize the depredations of a supposedly civilized race on the Amazon rainforest, the film is well acted by all, including Boorman's son, Charley, and is graced by Philippe Rousselot's magnificent photography of the Amazon jungle.THE LORD OF THE FLIES: Adapted from the William Golding novel. This Americanized 1990's version pits the young boys, survivors of a plane crash against nature and eventually each other. The consensus that rules should be maintained in the wilderness is soon forgotten as one boy threatens the group's coexistence and even the very lives of the individuals when he begins to draw members into a separate group.

TWO VIVID LESSONS IN LIFE EXPERIENCE.
These two movies are very exciting. They are both driven by plot, story and beautiful locations. Both films deal in family and social relationships and how events around that can become affected LORD OF THE FLIES was a nice remake. THE EMERALD FOREST was based on true events. These movies are great for classroom debate and views pro and con. PARENTS SHOULD WATCH THIS WITH THEIR KIDS THOUGH, DUE TO THE CONTENT AND RATING. Still 'good life lessons" can be taught here.These two movies are very exciting. They are both driven by plot, story and beautiful locations. Emerald Forest
I saw this movie once years ago and it was one of those you never forget. I relate so much to how this kind of thing could happen and with the exception of the destruction of the rain forest(their home) what an absolute perfect way for a kid to grow up into manhood, the way all Indians were raised, a very realistic life, they learn to hunt, fight, become invisible, all for survival, or they didn't survive, it was as simple as that. Ninety percent of the population will not know how survive ot even have the desire to put forth the effort if we were put in a life or death situation for any reason, they would not kill another person even to protect their family. Hardline liberals, over the years, have destroyed a generation of people from birth by being passivist. So this movie left it's mark ... So this movie left it's mark on me, even having seen it so many years ago, I am sixty now but love to hunt, not to kill everything that moves but to have the best meat possible for us, I have been an elk guide in Montana for over twenty years now, didn't get started until I was fourty and couldn't afford to go on a hunt so went out to learn to work just so I could be in the rocky mountains, I still feel eighteen and having been with the same man who taught me what I know about hunting in the mountains, survival or how to if I should be put in a situation where I might need it for my hunters and myself. I know the movie was fiction but it could just as easily have been real, very easily have been real.We have and are becoming more so, an overcivilized society where kids sit at a computer playing games or putting themselves in a situation to be kidnapped, possibly even killed by living a fairytale life. I could go on and on but I think I made my point. The woods is my church where the Great Spirit speaks to me on the wind, and my school where one never stops learning about the REAL ways of this wonderful life. Ta'sunka Witco

The Emerald Forrest
This is a wonderful movie. I recommend everyone see this movie at least once. If you like it then I also recommend the movie "Greystoke, The legend of Tarzan".
