    Great Life Story of Sudanese Refugee boys

    The book depicts the life of so many Africans that we may have read about in newspapers or heard of in newsclips. To read the words of first-hand experience is an understanding of a different nature. The book is beautifully written; present day interwoven with past memories of a Sudanese boy leaving the genocide in Sudan to safer haven, and now as a man in the U.S., fighting to keep his dignity here, as well. The subject's story is a life-changing read. It's a long book, but kept my interest throughout. I very highly recommend this for lovers of biography, culture, Africa, hardship endured with grace, and skillful authorship. It's a book of serious substance.

    SO SAD, SO EXHAUSTING TO READ

    DEATH AND DESTRUCTION, DEATH and sickness, death and rape, death by murder.......should I go on? This was a book club pick for my group. I like Dave Eggers, but this was so (see above), I wound up skimming the last 150 pages. I story that should be told, but. It is about the thousands boys who fled the Sudan to go to a better and safer part of Africa after tribes began to take over the land. Eventually some wound up in America, others in Darfur, which is worse than death!! Filled with history that went on and on and on. If the story was condensed and not so redundant, I maybe, just maybe, could suggest it to you.

    very good

    This is very good and touching book! I enjoy reading it.It talks about Sudan, the Sudanese people, and the War. Most of sections in this novel is sad, and I think many people would feel that. Some sections are funny, and sometimes I cannot understand why the writer write the section for. Anyway, the novel is excellent, and the writer and Valentino also show a real world of Sudanese and the overcoming hardships of the Sudanese people.

    Tragic and excellent

    I really appreciated Eggers style of writing and his mixture of brutal honesty and light humor at times as well. The story can be heart-wrenching at times but it is a story that needs to be told and heard. It was a great read. I highly recommend this book.
