  • The Most Beautiful Bronx !

As a boy that grew up in The Bronx and purchasing this book, it has brought back many memories of my grandparents farm on Manida Street ( though it was only about a 1/4 acre! ) eating ripe tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers right off the plants themselves. We used to go down by the river and throw in lines off the piers with little bells that would catch our attention and we would catch an eel !Yes, to have smoked eels was a treat ! Playing stick ball was the boys favorite pasttime with bases such as Mr. Pesche's sideview mirror from his '49 DeSoto as first base. When momma wouldn't give us a broom handle, we'd play the ball off the curb. I remember the walks from Westchester Avenue to Little Italy with a promise of Italian Ices if we behaved. The Big trip to Orchard Beach was a delight in ...

  • Exactly as the title states.

This didn't miss the mark. I was only 5 or 6 when I went to the Bronx. My Father's Aunt And Uncles lived in Highbridge section. I stayed with my Aunt and the visit relatives that were still living. I can remember very little, but I do remember somethings I saw. I remember being able to watch the subway trains going back and forth, boats, large and small going up and down the river. And a great view of the Highbridge bridge.

  • Bronx Nostalgia

Being raised in the Bronx during the 50's and 60's was a unique experience. Under today's standards our upbringing could be considered "rough" from an economic or prestige standpoint, but we developed a great deal of character from our surroundings. Because of social change, few folks from my era remain, but the memories are indelible. "The Beautiful Bronx" provides a memory lane trip regardless of what section of the borough was called "home". It's a coffee table keeper and a great talkpiece. I'm always amazed to find that so many people have roots in the Beautiful Bronx!

  • memories galore!

i own this book and bought this one for an elderly uncle who physically relocated to florida many years ago, but his heart remained in new york where he was born and raised. i know he will flip when he gets it! the pictures are great and really touch the hearts of not only those of us who were fortunate enough to be bronxites, but also anyone who grew up anywhere during that period.

  • The Beautiful Bronx...... indeed.

What memories this book brings!. Growing up in the Bronx from 1953 on, was so much fun. There are many lessons in life and growing up in this melting pot teaches you a few. I know the Bronx well and Still visit there today. The Zoo, Botanical Gardens, Yankee Stadium and Wave Hill, and don't forget City Island, are among some place to see Today.
