You are Sanjuro Makabe. Your friends and family are dead and everyone blames you. It really wasn't your fault yet the freak accident has cost you so much pain. You're literally frowned upon by your peers and your career has taken a nosedive into a shallow pool. Just when you thought things couldn't get worse, a terrorist organization is now threatening the Cronian Mining Consortium (the government) and your military commune. Their leader, Gabriel, is planning to overthrow the government and it is now up to you to stop him. There are also rumors that the terrorists are actually responsible for the loss of your loved ones and thus you head out on a path of redemption, revenge and the destruction of the Fallen and Gabriel himself.<br><br>This is the premise for Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, a mecha-action game from the makers of Blood. In it, you chose one of four different MCA (Mobile Combat Armor) units and romp through the planet of Cronus (in first or third person perspectives) looking for Gabriel and stopping his terrorist organization from any wrongdoing. You'll battle it out in military bases and starships as well as vast outdoor atmospheres such as deserts and valleys. Fortunately, your military company has been researching new technology to produce weapons of mass destruction -- 18 in all. At your disposal is the destructive Juggernaut, pulse cannons, rockets, etc.

Shogo: MAD: Truly a flawed masterpiece
This is a classic from the end of the nineties. When this game came out, folks were still stuck in the "find key, open door, next level" mentality of the Doom era. And then you had Shogo, replete with voice acting, a gripping plot, fantastic anime visual style and the ability to fight not only on foot, but in a 100ft. tall mecha! The sound, music and just the raw feel of this game world is fantastic. Action is always gutsy and fast-paced, and there is a certain amount of replayability due to a number of branching decisions you make along the way. Now, a few reasons I've marked it as four bars: first and worst, the AI is quite crap. Enemies just stand there while you waste their buddies next to them. When they are on the alert, they sometimes display the "superhuman computer" syndrome, ... This is a classic from the end of the nineties. And die you will, many many times, for bullets actually HURT in Shogo. There is no taking-two-rockets-and-still-bringing-it action here. You will learn to tread carefully. Other complaints would be an overall feeling of under-cookedness throughout: clipping errors, invisible walls, opening doors randomly killing you, shoddy stuff. It's clear that this one shipped before it was done. For those of you used to the polish we've come to expect from Valve and the gaming world at large, this will probably be frustrating. But for those who remember the excitement of PC gaming circa 1998, this title will remain a blast and maintain a special place in the heart of any gamer who played through it.

Not bad for an older game!
An OK game by today's standards, but pretty cool for it's time. Running around a city in a giant Mecha blowing things up, then doing it as a smaller, more fragile "Crunchie" (human). The interface works fairly well, I tweeked the controls a bit to suit my style, and it could use an in game map feature, but overall a fun game. If your looking for graphics that test the limits of your machine, keep looking, they aren't here, your human character has that old blocky look that early 3D graphics had, but the mechs look great and make nice big booms when you blow 'em to bits!An OK game by today's standards, but pretty cool for it's time. Fun older 'mech/FPS hybrid
works just fine on my ancient Compaq recycled Franken-PC :) even with it running XP on an old Pentium II. Graphics are chunky, and soooo last decade, but that's just fine...I still like to get my Quake and old-school Doom on! For those of you who pine for the grand old days of MechWarrior, this has elements of that, with some manga-style drama and a bit of interesting backstory. All in all for a really inexpensive purchase price, I am well satisfied. If you are young enough that you do not know who Duke Nukem is, you will probably hate this game.
