Notes
Songs from this CD are featured on HBO,Fox network TV,plus a major sports book, and many other radio and TV shows. One song on this CD Babe Ruth's Curse 1 is in the film the Curse of the Bambino shown on HBO. The National Baseball Hall of Fame has even added the entire CD to it's collection! Featuring major baseball team rivalries and sports heroes, the songs are great! It truly can be said to be about Baseball and beyond! Baseball spans the history of America but it's not a parallel history. Baseball is woven into the tapestry of American life and values. Here you may find songs about what we value, who we value, or don't value as people because baseball may be a game but it is played within the game of life. Some of the songs are happy or funny. Others may make you shed a tear or two. All hopefully will make you think and feel. A few of the sports heroes are multi sport wonders. Many are largely unsung. Some were maligned in their own times. All deserve more than a song because by their actions and presence they inspired or continue to inspire others. SONG LIST (1) THE GOLDEN GREEK: New England's greatest all around athlete Harry Agganis' life was golden on the sports field and pure gold in the way he lived his life. This college football All American and College Hall of Famer and Boston Red Sox Star died at barely 26. His death stunned the nation's sports world. This song is a tribute to the man who touched so many hearts. (2) FENWAY: There is only one Fenway Park. They'll never be another. Since 1912 when Fenway was built many baseball greats have played ball here. Families over many generations have created a treasure of memories from moments of time spent here. This song salutes the one and only Fenway Park. (3) There isn't a Boston Red Sox fan in New England or anywhere in the world who has yet unraveled THE MYSTERY OF THE WORLD. This song offers one explanation! Do you agree? (4 & 5) BABE RUTH'S CURSE I and BABE RUTH CURSE II Babe Ruth was traded to the New York Yankees shortly after he helped the Red Sox win the 1918 World Series. Since that time despite numerous near victorious attempts the Red Sox have never won another. Many Red Sox fans believe the Babe has cursed them just like in BABE RUTH CURSE I. However, although BABE RUTH'S CURSE II starts off in the same way, it later explores what Red Sox fans might feel if their Red Sox actually did break the curse and win another World Series. (6) If the New York Yankees can only rarely be beaten on the playing field, the fans of other teams can commiserate with each other by listening to BASEBALL'S MORTAL SIN. (7) At the end of the 2,000 World Subway Series the New York Mets had something to cry about. Some may have felt GOD'S NOT A MET'S FAN. It may be true. (8) Louis Sockalexis, a Native American of the Penobscot Nation, was a turn of the century multi-sport sensation whose achievements on the sports field amazed baseball immortals like John McGraw and other sports greats. The song LOUIS SOCKALEXIS tells some of his incredible life story. (9) The prejudice that Louis Sockalexis faced is alive and unfortunately, well more than one century later. What Native Americans face today in sports is told in I'M NOT YOUR MASCOT, I'M A MAN!! (10) The song SMOKEY JOE Williams highlights aspects of his fascinating life. Two totally different baseball immortals Satchel Paige and Ty Cobb lauded Smokey Joe. Satchel Paige said he was the best he ever saw. Ty Cobb claimed he could have been a thirty game winner in the majors. But, Smokey Joe was barred for the color of his skin. He was posthumously inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000. (11) Long before the great Jackie Robinson was born Bud Fowler, Moses Walker and other black heroes had broken the color line in Pro Ball. LET'S NOT FORGET asks us to remember them and others for their courage and inspiration which led eventually to the permanent breaking of the color line. (12) WHO? What baseball player has near Hall
