Katharine Hepburn gives one of her most nuanced performances in this offbeat Gothic drama. This mysterious film creates a dark, brooding atmosphere with a visual style well suited to a story about concealing the truth. KEEPER OF THE FLAME was the first film in which George Cukor directed the dynamic duo of Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. Tracy plays top-notch reporter Stephen O'Malley, who travels to a small town to investigate the accidental death of national hero Robert V. Forrest, a World War I veteran. Forrest's widow, Christine (Hepburn), has become a recluse, and O'Malley also faces a lack of cooperation from the dead men's friends and relatives. It turns out they are covering up the truth of Forrest's political views, which are revealed to be less than patriotic. Released in the midst of World War II, the film was an attack on the radical right and was used as evidence against screenwriter Donald Ogden Stewart when he was blacklisted in 1951.

Mystery Movie
The story was more of a mystery, which kept me interested from beginning to end. I especially liked the young boy. What a fine actor he was but his name wasn't listed in the credits. There should be a list of the actors and the role they played in this movie

This movie was made because of a or the same party trying to take on the Government back in the day of Roosevelt... A news paper reporter made her and it known ... But this movie was badly made , only for about a minute does she explain and not that well , what this was all about... Question were the makers of this movie afraid of said party .... I think it's time for a remake so someone can tell the whole Story..This movie was made because of a or the same party trying to take on the Government back in the day of Roosevelt... Story line with interesting twist
This is a great classic movie, with riveting performances by stars of the era. It starts with a reporter visiting the widow of an American hero and finding that not everything is as it seems. I won't say anymore so as not to include any spoilers - but I highly recommend!

A Change
I really like the persona of Katharine Hepburn. Her characters are usually very strong, this movie was a change for her, especially as she had just done the movie Woman on the Year. In this one, while she did a strong act(you'll have to buy it to find that out), She manage to do so in a sort of damsel in distress way. While it was somewhat out of her usual character (I'm sure she wanted to expand her acting chops), it worked for her and I believe she could not have pulled it off against a lesser actor. For the reasons stated I did like this movie and I thought the storyline was thought provoking(which I think was in-line with her persona)I really like the persona of Katharine Hepburn.
