IPod Nano 8 GB vs. Sony Walkman 4 GB
The IPod is the original MP3 player, and the industry standard. The 4th Gen Nano has all the nice features of the Classic IPod, but in a more convenient and eye pleasing package. 8 GB is plenty of space for my music, pics, and info, so price paid was very good. Also, the vendor I bought it from was very responsible, he shipped quickly and included a 110V-220V travel charger and protective cover that is not included when bought anywhere else. Having said that, my son has a new 4 GB Sony Walkman (forgot the model) which at almost 40% less money offers the same features, easier to use user friendly controls, better lcd image, and superior sound (better DAC). Problem of having two different MP3 Players is that most ITunes downloads are different format, so they will only download to the ... The IPod is the original MP3 player, and the industry standard. Problem of having two different MP3 Players is that most ITunes downloads are different format, so they will only download to the IPod, and most MP3's available from Napster, Walmart Music, and others will not transfer to IPod, but will transfer to Walkman and other MP3 players. Purchased a US$30.00 converter software that solved the problem, but it is time consuming. If you are into ease of use and detailed sound the Sony Walkman is for you. But, if you want convenience, good looks, and wide choice of readily available downloads the IPod Nano is for you.

Well, for the sake of being correct, let me state that I currently have a working iPod Nano 2nd gen. That said , I can compare the evolution between this one and the present one (4th gen). Reasons to buy it. 1- Current pricing 2- Known durability and ease of use. 3- I is an iPod and for music it is simply amazing. 4- Has cool new features. 5- And last but no least, saved some cash cause I thought about buying the 3rd gen one... ;) Now, to the item itself. I'm not gonna bore you to death about what you already know (fantastic, wooohooo, etc.) but the actual differences between the models I referred to. The Ups: It is sleeker and lighter than the 2nd gen. It feels very comfortable on your hand and menus are as friendly as they get. It has an accelerometer that allows ... It has an accelerometer that allows to skip tracks effortlessly jumbling your playlist. The screen is obviously larger, sharper and more crispy even for it's size. Accelerometer acts on the screen allowing you to see it change the display tilting it sideways. this is pretty cool. The cable that came with the packaging didn't have a "press zone" like the old model in order to separate them. Now the action is simplified: pop cable in - push cable out. No pushing nothing to let go. Clear advantages but you might be thinking: "Hummm... wont that make it fall if I pick it up by the cable while docked?" Answer is no. I was cleverly made so that you have to give it a considerable pull to get it off. The battery charges steadily and quickly. Lasts a full day and a half to 2 full days playing music and games without dieing on me. The games take advantage of the accelerometer and they are nice. And the most important is the quality of the sound from this player. It is clear with no distortions. Just as you want it! I has a volume lock so that you can choose a max volume on it. And it has an equalizer that allows you to tune the sound to your specific taste. :) Oh and the colors are a blast! The Downs: No Radio. I really don't know what is apple waiting to get a radio receptor into the player. Competition has radio on 99% of their products a radio receptor. It isn't that expensive to put it in. The accelerometer could have been made to be selected so that when you shake it it would go to the next music on that album you're playing and not randomly flip through the whole library. They could have placed an option to make it hop from track to track or jumble as he already does. Headphones aren't really bad but could improve seriously. The inability of Drag&Drop that almost other players begin to have by default along with a music program much like iTunes (I know this because I had a Creative Zen). No protection came with this one as with the 2nd gen. Not even a pouch. I'm gonna get a Zagg shield to keep it safe from scratches. So, why would you like to buy a Nano? Well it is really small. Fells good to hold (not slippery nor bulky). It is reliable as my 2nd gen never failed on me, not even once. It is plain simple to use and has intuitive commands and menus. If you're not to dependent on Radio and you are willing to spend a few more dollars this is the player for you. You hardly fell it in your pocket. Very portable and the extra bucks are payed off on reliability, durability, performance... Besides it is better to look at a player that has colors that vibrant and really put a smile on your face. has lots of features, great design, u just love to carry it - small but good quality as ussually from apple. PROS Built-in video camera, mic, and speaker. Larger display, but same-size frame as previous-gen nano. Excellent user interface. New Genius Mix and VoiceOver features. Adds an FM tuner, and a pedometer. CONS So-so file support. Video camera can't capture still IMAGES..... so no photos...Relatively low capacity Awkward placement of video camera but the the 6th generation nano can't play video at all. so i guess this one is better in this case.has lots of features, great design, u just love to carry it - small but good quality as ussually from apple. Apple iPod Nano 5th Generation
The 5th Generation Nano is the best Nano iPod by far. I also have the 7th Generation Nano...If I had to choose, I would choose the 5th Generation. The 5th has a camera and external speakers...which are great extra features.

The unit has new rounded, contour edges that make it feel thinner than it is and feel right in your hand. The new line-up comes in a whole array of colors to match the rainbow, and to match your personality as well. The 4th Generation Nano has completely redesigned the Nano over the 3rd generation “Fat”, and it feels like it is different on the sides when you hold it comparatively to the older generations. Stepping back to the 1st and 2nd generation designs, it takes the good of the style of the 2nd gen, along with the advancements in the “Fat” 3rd generation versions, and creates a winning design. When view movies, shows, podcasts with the new Nano, the Nano should be flipped to a “widescreen” view, in which the new accelerometer changes the landscape and viewing of this device. This new Nano still has a long battery life. Apple claims that it will last 36 hours, but I was able to get just over 32 hours of playtime – which is nice… real nice. The video experience was just over 6 hours – as advertised. Another thing about the accelerometer. The accelerometer also enables 'shake to shuffle', where a flick of the wrist will choose a random song. This feels like it has been done right. It also allows easy use of the coverflow system, which runs much smoother this time around. The new music search functions (Genius), the brighter screen,, sound quality, smoother ease and use of coverflow, and continued games support give the new iPod added flare. The addition of voice notes won't make a difference to most people, as you'll need to buy some extra headphones with a microphone built in – but it is nice to know that it is there if you do. The addition of Genius, an automatic playlist generator, is going to be a massive hit with iPod fans. Genius will be massive, because it will - if it works as advertised - unlock the potential of your iPod library and help keep parties jumping or evenings chilled. It will also allow Apple to recommend tracks to you by your listening tastes as well. As a fan small MP3 players, and of the past Nano line-ups, I love this design. I really do. I think the all aluminum casing is the way to go, and I am happy again that it is all around the unit. Should you replace your old 8GB Nano (3rd Generation) with the new one? If you really want accelerometer video abilities and Genius, I would say yes. Regardless if you upgrade, or decided to wait it out, I highly recommended this device to Apple lovers and new MP3 enthusiasts alike. Pros: -Brighter, crisper viewing screen -Aluminum scratch-resistant casing all around the body -Amazing battery-life: 30+ hours plus (6+ with video)! -Search features, cover flow, album art, Genius -Accelerometer for video viewing and song shuffling -Genius song selection -Microphone capabilities -LOTS of new colors to choose from -Games via iTunes Cons -Still no built in FM tuner -Limited space when it comes to video & games
