The year is 1940, and the conquering force of the Third Reich has invaded France. Nazi Germany has marched into Paris and claimed the once proud nation as its own in its further quest for domination of Europe. The allied forces won't be coming to liberate France any time soon, as they have their hands full protecting Great Britain. The perception that the French have simply let Hitler walk into their country without a fight has not endeared the rest of the war-torn world to the cause. As a young woman named Manon Batiste, you will be thrust into the world of intrigue and violence that is World War II doing all you can to save your beloved homeland by joining the OSS and traveling the world as a member of the French Resistance, taking out Gestapo thugs and the SS so that you might become a seasoned veteran and aid in the ultimate liberation of your nation. Medal of Honor: Underground is the prequel to 1999's popular Medal of Honor, the first-person shooter that threw you into the turmoil of WWII and up against the Nazis. This prequel is designed on the same 3D engine as the first, only this time players will be wrapped up in the French Resistance, making their way through the Underground and assaulting Nazi outposts in France, Egypt and other foreign locations. The focus of the game is the single-player campaign, which will pit the player, controlling Manon, against all manner of Nazi militia. When players begin one of the 24 different missions, they will be given briefings detailing the objective of that specific operation, be it finding a specific target to assassinate or locating plans and objects that will aide the Resistance in its fight against Hitler. The developers have attempted to fill each locale with the realism of the actual global conflict. To this effect, you will have computer-controlled compatriots who will occasionally fight alongside you, as well as enemies who possess realistic damage models, where head and chest shots do far more damage than shots to the extremities. Also, each of the twelve weapons contained in the game are authentic to the era and place of combat. The game will also occasionally allow you to hop into enemy vehicles, such as tanks and motorcycles. You can take pictures of enemies and use them with your own faked credentials to beat border guards and snooping storm troopers. Beyond the single-player game, Medal of Honor: Underground also features multiplayer play for two people, letting them choose different environments from the game to do battle in.

Awkward to control and display is awkward
Controls are awkward and not standard compared to other PS1 games. 2-player display makes it hard to see and navigate. Graphics are not great. Not happy with this game.

Great game
The games was very clean and the case and Manuel is great. The game itself is great with the classic first person shooter with new weapons and missions. The game looks awesome and you will really like the new level textures as well as the movie clips of historical footage. This is a great game and must have to complete the ps1 metal of honor games.

Good game, vintage graphics
The controls are set up crazy, not fluid by today’s standards. Has many glitches, the game itself is good when the graphics doesn’t chop out.

Armed with an arsenal of new weapons, you battle tanks, Half-tracks, motorcycles and Gestapo thugs across a wide variety of authentic World War II locations in Europe and North Africa. From the cobblestone streets of Paris to the narrow alleyways of Casablanca, from a doomed ... Your Country has been invaded. Procured weapons, expert stealth and a poised trigger finger - you'll need them all to become a seasoned OSS veteran and to return home to take your part in the liberation of your nation. Now we've got the basic overview out of the way... onto the review. Graphics 7/10 There's some lovely gun models and Axis skins. The level textures fit in nicely with the theme of the game and give a realistic real. There's even some nicely animated tanks (various kinds) for you to deal with. Game Play 8/10 This might take you a level or two to get to grips with. The default controls have you struggling with a very strange Analog Stick layout but I got used to it very quickly. But it is customizable so anything you don't like you can change. Life Span 8/10 Nice and long single player mode with a oddly addictive multi player mode. Single player mode took me seven to ten hours (I consider myself the average gamer) on the default difficulty which I feel is very good. Chances are you'll play through the Single Player mode at least twice. Its very satisfying destroying those half - tracks! Once completed the normal way you can go back and use some of the many cheat codes to try the game different ways. Good stuff! Overall 8/10 I truly enjoyed this game... twice! And plan to play it through again. There's lots of good features (grenades for one) but it does have its flaws. I personally didn't like the level designs very much. There were many levels which looked like I could jump straight out of and into the black abyss. All the level designers had to do was put a tree or wall in the way. But this is basically all I have to complain about. The rest of the game was great fun and UK games can pick it up for as cheap as £7.99. A must for any first person shooter fan.
