    Fishpond 360 Retractor is a bit pricey, but after using it I bought 3 more

    I tried the Fishpond retractor after several cheap ones I used failed. First, the pin attachment is solid, it pierces through any fabric or foam while allowing the retractor to move, giving you lots of options for locations. The light weight is a premium and the pivoting design is clever. After I bought the first one I bought three more for my fishing backpack and another waist pack. I use these for nippers, Ketchum Release tools and hemostats. Any heavier tools I keep in my pack pockets and that seems to work better. Fishpond products are quality and well designed, this retractor makes the same statement.

    Good Quality at a Price

    This was an experiment since people seem to like this tube-style retractor. While it's very well designed, including the tie-tack type of pin attachment, alas...these longer tubes are pretty hard to incorporate into my gear setup. I prefer a low-profile and, thanks to UMPQUA, hidden zingers. The tube, is hard to place without hanging in the way of something else. Frankly, it's a pretty piece, and kind of fun to have in the open anyways. That said, it seems to work nicely, but just remember that the extension is VERY SHORT and doesn't come close to a cable/cord zinger. It's up there with the more expensive units, too, so the market is pretty specific.

    Not so good

    Product seems well enough made, but the design is restrictive. The coil many times will hang up on the metal sleeve and not retract all the way. The 360 degree pivot sounds good on paper but is quite restrictive as well. If you move on only one plane it works fine, but pull forward (which is almost always is the case) the swivel is rendered null. A well made retractor with a stainless cable is infinitely better.
