This lets you seamlessly integrate other devices, regardless of whether they are running on 10/100 megabits per second (Mbps) or gigabit Ethernet speed. When operating in half-duplex mode, this 5-port switch delivers data transmission speeds of up to 1,000Mbps. For even faster connections, it can double this speed when full-duplex mode is enabled. Each port is also equipped with auto-sensing capability, which facilitates automatic configuration based on the speed and duplex operation of an attached device. Drawing on another innovative technology, this switch uses Auto Uplink to adjust for cabling type so you do not have to worry whether to use straight-through or cross-over Ethernet cables. The NetGear ProSafe GS105 complies with several standards defined by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). This switch is 802.1p-compliant, which enables traffic prioritization to regulate network data transfer. Applications, such as movie streaming, sharing video and audio, and online gaming that require a higher bandwidth get top priority over low latency-sensitive tasks. Combined with automatic flow control, data transmission is handled at an efficient rate to avoid network congestion. These features ensure your LAN’s performance remains optimal despite a heavier workload. Providing support for the IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet standard, this NetGear ProSafe device helps lower your energy consumption by up to 60 percent. Power expending is automatically minimized when traffic is light on active ports or when port inactivity is detected. Additionally, shorter cable lengths also means reduced electrical usage. This translates into significant energy savings for you and your organization. Housed in a durable metal casing, this NetGear switch has passed stringent tests to ensure a long product life.     Read raw, uncompressed media files from one PC to the next in real time. 1000Mb/s. Gigabit!

    This is great if you are doing any kind of multimedia transfers between local network computers (locally produced multimedia collaborations). The GS105 makes reading the hard drive on a neighboring computer just as fast as reading it from your own! It literally transfers data faster than the internal hard drive can read. So the GS105 is like the computers were sharing the same hard drives directly. :) OMG fast. If you want to see it on steroids, use a SSD for your local network file shares. It will send / receive without any delay because it has no spinup time, and also because it has 4x the data transfer rate even after the HDD spins up. There's just no contest.     Netgear five-port makes itss mark

    The Netgear five port unmanaged switch is a good value for the money. It's durable and will last many years. I have had the 8 port type and never had any trouble with it. The speed for the most part depends on the speed of a userrs network. Mine is between 100 to 200 MPS. Some users will no doubt wish for even more speeds. This little switch will handle. Remember this switch is unmanaged so the is no need to configure it for VPN or VLANS; it works right out of the box.

    Best compact switch.

    No nonsense, high quality switch, very compact with no upkeep. For best results, make sure your network has all the same model of switch. Easily supports listed gigabit speeds on all ports, no slow downs, no issues. Very solid product and typical one of the best to purchase used as they rarely have failures or issues.

    Gigabit switch

    Simple to set up- just connect then plug it in and you are done. Oh yes, you have to decide where to put it first. Easy and fast. If you’re on fibre you need a gigabit switch if you use one. Hard wired is faster than wireless eg 520 download speed wired vs 350 wireless. This switch is rugged and compact. Nice piece.

    Industrial Strength Small Office/Home Gigabit Switch

    I have been using these Netgear GS105 and GS108 switches since they first came out about 12-15 years ago. Occaisionally a power supply will go bad and I have to go on Ebay and buy a replacement for about $5-$7. Sometimes they will freeze when there is too much activity on the network but it happens rarely. All you have to do to fix it, is to unplug the power supply for 30 seconds and plug it back in. I am still using some versions 1 and 2 GS108 switches on one my networks without problems as I said that I purchased 12 to 15 years ago. How is that for longevity?
