Runaway... a movie from my past
I remember seeing this movie years ago. Michael Crichton has some great ideas; this was a good one, falling short of great. It's not his best. But maybe it's unfair to compare. I think most popular would be Jurassic Park. My favorite is Andromeda Strain. I liked Timeline, Disclosure, Sphere, The Great Train Robbery, and this one, Runaway. The technology seems dated. 1980 Michael Crichton sci fy thriller
Evil criminal creates robotic devices to kill people in horrible ways. Film has its humorous moments of cops chasing and struggling against defective robots, being followed round by intrusive reporters, robots driving cars, etc. 35 year old prophesy!

Dated but Bearable 80's Sci-Fi
This 80s-era action flick of the "robots in rebellion" sub-genre is unfortunately peppered with far too many clumsy touches that date it solidly to its production period, which is problematic in a science fiction film. This rather blind eye for anachronism and a noticeably cheesy script are overcome to an extent by credible performances by Tom Selleck as a robot-hunting LA cop and rock star Gene Simmons (KISS) as the villainous scientist behind household robots that inexplicable begin murdering their human masters. The movie also features an extended appearance by Kirstie Alley that suddenly and violently ends, which is somewhat merciful as she never quite manages to overcome the vapid dialogue and silly role the director has stuck her with. While this film pales in comparison to highly ... Tom Selleck is not quite as strident as in other films. Cynthia Rhodes is lovely and her character shows some vulnerability as well as a forced toughness. a pre-Jenny Craig Kirstie Alley is the tough Fall-girl friend to demonic villain Gene Simmons. There are plenty of perilous situations to go around and the action moves fast enough that there is not too much character development. The good guys are likeable and the villain (Simmons) is over the top. Not bad entertainment if you have an hour and forty minutes to kill. "Loved The Film"
What can I say, except for the fact that Cynthia Rhodes & Kirstie Alley were surely '2' beautiful Females & that Tom Selleck & Gene Simmons really made this Film entertaining....
