Josh Baskin (Tom Hanks) is a thirteen-year-old kid who is kind-of short for his age. He likes a girl who is taller than him, and he desperately wants to impress her. Trying to ride a roller-coaster at a local fair, he is denied access because he is too short. He is so embarrassed by this that he makes a wish on this old swami machine. He wishes he was big! The next morning he wakes up, and when he looks into the bathroom mirror, he discovers that he is about thirty. Not knowing what to do, he puts on some of his dad's clothes and goes looking for the swami machine to try and reverse the spell. The carnival has moved on. . . Josh goes to his school to look for his best friend Billy. When Billy sees him he is afraid that Josh is some sort of child molester. Josh convinces Billy of who he ... Josh applies for a job at a toy company where he is hired as a computer operator. As just a child, he really is into toys, and his playfulness and imagination are noticed by the owner, who makes Josh Vice President of research. Other executives there are jealous of him, and try anything to get rid of him. A pretty girl, Susan, who is also an executive falls for Josh and becomes his girlfriend. Josh quickly assimilates into his newfound responsibilities, and is very successful. Billy gets the requested information in the mail and goes to Josh with it. He is really impatient to get his friend back, and Josh is torn between his love for his girlfriend Susan (Elizabeth Perkins) and wanting to be a kid again and being with his family. Josh and Susan have really grown close and when he tries to tell her about his predicament, she misunderstands that he is just trying to dump her. Finally, Billy visits him at work and reminds him that he is just a kid, leaving the location of the ZOLTAR machine. Although he loves Susan, he does what he must and leaves to go and wish he was young again. She follows him and arrives right after he made his wish. Finally understanding what he was trying to tell her, she drives him home.

This 2-Disc Extended Edition is the best version of this feature. imdb.com lists this version as Widescreen 2.35:1, but mine looks more like 1.85:1. Stay away from the Fullscreen 1.33:1 version of any feature whenever possible. The wrighter's commentary track only works with the shorter Theatrical version. Nevertheless, both versions are supplied on disc 1. The original audio recordings of the wrighter's brainstorming sessions make up part of the commentary interview, and Ross & Spielberg are very generous with wrighting advice if you're keen to learn. This Was Good !
My wife had seen the movie before, a few times during the years. However I had not, and had the opportunity to view this extended cut. This movie was right up my alley with the fantasy. I enjoyed Tom Hanks and Elizabeth Perkins in the lead roles. This was more than just the 'chick flick' I thought it was, and should have watched it before now! 100 % Postive - Arrived well-packaged in perfect condition.
A great movie from the 80's! When Tom Hanks was still making himself into the well-rounded actor that we all know him as today, he was more comedic with many of his roles... and especially good at conveying the childlike innocence needed for the man-boy character in 'Big'. A must-see movie for anyone who likes Tom Hanks but has never watched this all the way from beginning-to-end.
