It is jam-packed with otherwise difficult, and usually scattered, information to locate such as production numbers and options packages for particular makes and models. I recently bought a fairly rare old car, and was completely frustrated at every turn in trying to discover very simply what the production number for it was. You would expect this to be easy to find online...not the case, even checking specialty and fan sites. Having lost my original edition of this invaluable book, I ordered this one and had my answer. This book is simply irreplaceable for spotters and old-car fans. Page after page of text is supplemented by ... The 2002 Edition of the Standard Catalog of American Cars, 1946-1975 is an especially valuable resource for those who are fans of a bygone American automotive era. Page after page of text is supplemented by useful, in most cases now-famous, manufacturer pictures of vehicles, along with incredibly detailed descriptions of options, costs, availabilities, and VIN/BIN decodes. I never cease to amaze my girlfriend by providing make, model, and year of old muscle cars used in recent Hollywood productions (the Firebird used in Matrix 2, or the Chevelle used in the remake of The Hitcher), often being able to point out appearance options as well...thanks to perusing this book. I heartily recommend this book to the casual reader, but particularly to the dedicated hobbyist. If you're inclined to take a close look, this guide will prove itself invaluable to your enjoyment of the next street rod gathering you find yourself at. I personally have found it indisposable.

American Cars Book
It was sugested that I purchase this book for information by a member of the Chrysler car club in the US as I had just imported a 1949 American car and was looking for production numbers and data on it . On receiving the book which was second hand but as new it has all the factory production numbers, vin nimbers some technical specifications and numbers that was produced for each year from 1946 to 1975 of all American cars, and is an absolute gold mine of info for any classic car collector .
